Anti-virus program?
I got some spyware on my laptop an hour ago and its incredibly annoying. Any quick suggestions so I can get this thing off my computer?
After some research I downloaded a program called "malwarebytes", but double clicking on the executable file tells me to choose a program to open it with....anybody know what I should choose? Ive never had to do this for any .exe file.

Adaware and Spybot
You can get them at http://www.download.com. They are both free and work pretty well.

Re: Anti-virus program?
Anti-virus wise I think AVG is free and is pretty effective. You should definitely have an anti-virus program, and should have a firewall as well.

Re: Anti-virus program?
Malwarebytes is the correct program. The virus is smart enough to keep the software from launching it’s executable. It will probably block your attempts to install any others as well. Doesn’t matter anyway, the other programs mentioned are inferior to Malwarebytes.
The first thing that you want to do is reboot the computer and bring it up in safe mode with networking. As soon as you sign in, open your task manager and kill anything that tries to run.
Most of the time, you can now get the program to open and update. Then just run it and you should be good to go.
If not, post back what it’s doing.

Had the same type virus, ended up just wiping the HD clean and starting over. The virus is smart and wont let you open a malware killer.Hoos wrote:Malwarebytes is the correct program. Updated.
The virus is called Vista Security Center by the way.

Re: Anti-virus program?
After you solve this, I can put my full weight behind AVG (the free version). I never get anything and I aimlessly barrel into most of the more "interesting" sites to download movies, games, applications, etc.

Yepper, I got it off the P2P4U website someone linked here to watch PPV's and stuff. Mine was the windows XP2010 virus. Kept giving me a pop up telling you have a virus and you have to buy their virus protection to get rid of it. Tried everything it said online. Wipped it clean and it was as good as new.

Re: Anti-virus program?
try myp2p.eu; it links to a whole bunch of shit and I watch all my games daily with no problem. veetle FTWBFiVL wrote:sixpackdan101 wrote:Updated.

I got this virus and I had AVG. I download next to nothing. Got it from streaming UFC fight 2 months back. AVG didnt catch this one. I love AVG, it is very good free one but be careful.trendon wrote:After you solve this, I can put my full weight behind AVG (the free version). Re: Anti-virus program?
I like AVG so much that I changed my bank over from Symantec to AVG. AVG is just so much easier to manage. However, I have had instances of computers getting infected. Nothing is 100% effective. There is just too much shit out there.

Re: Anti-virus program?
Do you pay for your AVG Hoos?
I recently had to download an update and it doesnt include any malware protection and is making me purchase their upgraded one or another virus program.
