But now that I am used to many different kinds of beer, I cannot stand drinking with my parents and all they have is Bud Light or Miller Light.

I like to try new beers all the time.
I go 2 times a year to the Brew Kettle in Strongsville, Ohio and we brew beer and then bottle it a few weeks later.
That has got me trying so many different beers, I love it.

And Uuaww, I liked both the Pale Ale and the Honey Moon. I bought that same sampler before.
I had that phase a last year and I loved every minute of it. Once you get past the bullshit beers (which, technically, aren't even American anymore) we have some amazingly kickass beers in this country.

I was the one that had his own bottle of scotch at the pre-party drinking Friday night (that you missed).
LOL. Man, I would have been running from you. I can't handle that stuff and I've tried so hard. Even high-end stuff like Oban or a good bourbon; no good. But put a stout or a nice dark lager near me and I'll drink reservoirs dry.
I'm a fan of good beer as well. I primarily drink beers from Stone and Lagunitas out here. It ain't cheap, but it is damn good stuff. I've got some Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shutdown Ale at home right now. 9.75% but with incredible taste as well.

As for scotch, there are certain tricks to drinking it (neat or with one or two cubes depending on what you're having, couple drops of water to open it up, how to drink it without the throat burn effect, etc) that make a pretty big difference in the enjoyment factor. I've been through at least a half dozen if not more different types the last couple years (it takes me a good 2 months to get through a bottle I buy because I'm not a habitual at home drinker). Some I won't buy again, some I will.

Also, I'd say scotch is not a drink you're going to have at the bar. Much better as a drink at home chilling out for the night.

Yeah, I tried all of that. As you noted from the menu you saw, the grill I ran was somewhat high-end; or, at least, in a high-end area of New York. Thus, we had a lot of good drinkers come through. We went though a bottle of Johnny Blue a month and it usually wasn't the "show off" kind of drinker.

So, they tried. I'll say one thing, no drink - alcoholic or not - has a better aroma than a good single-malt. I tried one, and I forget its name as we had 20+ different brands, and it smelled and tasted like a fireplace. I just cannot handle it.

I am a bad Irishman, I cannot handle any whiskey or scotch. I feel shame. I do make it up by drinking enough beer for three men, though. I can brag about that!
I can vouch for you on that ;) Too bad you had to catch that flight (LMAO even tho you missed it) we could have drank for atleast another 2 - 3 more hours
