Defense Comes Up Big for Cardinals
Pittsburgh, PA - The Louisville defense, which had been shredded as of late, came up with its best performance in the last three seasons which propelled the Cards to a much needed victory. The Cards were riding a 2 game losing streak to the Panthers but were able to put together an outstanding performance on both sides of the ball to break that streak and get their first conference win of the year.
Louisville picked off the Panthers QB 8 times in the game which led to short field drives that aided immensely in the final score. The game was close until late in the 2nd quarter when the Cards broke it open with interceptions on three straight drives with one being returned for a TD. Prior to that however, it looked like it was going to be a game down to the wire as both teams were trading blows back and forth.
Teddy Bridgewater continued his bounce back performance this season with another efficient affair. He wen 9-10 on the day for 225 yards and 3 TD's. Two of those were deep strikes to Devante Parker and Chris White which helped open up a halftime lead.
The Cardinals running game, which was the bright spot last season, continued to be bottled up. Domonique Brown and Jeremy Wright were both held to under 50 yards rushing apiece at 44 yards and 31 yards respectively. The two have been in a rut all season long and there doesn't seem to be an end in site.
Louisville moves to 3-1 on the season and more importantly 1-0 in Big East play. Next up for the Cards is a visit from the Temple Owls to Papa Johns Stadium. The Cards look to keep the momentum moving forward in this young season with a win.
Good game Vikes, best of luck the rest of the season!
