Twist Brings Spread Option to the SECUPDATED: 10/08/2012 - 10:42AMArkansas hires Spread Option Mind, Coach Twist
Will it work in the SEC?
Will Coach Twist's Zone Read attack work against the athletes of the SEC?
Fayetteville, AR (AP)- The University of Arkansas is looking for new life. The fan base is desperate for success, as well as the University Administration. Many coaches were interviewed for the chance to take the reigns of an SEC football program like Arkansas, but after many weeks of reviewing resume's and speaking with candidates, the Razorbacks have named their new Head Coach. It is the former miracle worker from last season, who took a brand new program in UTSA who was picked to finish dead last in the WAC, and won 10 games (Including a victory over Georgia Tech in the Independence Bowl), Coach Twist.
Coach Twist brings over a high powered, Spread Triple Option Scheme that he will attempt to make a success in the SEC with Arkansas.
"It's going to be an incredible challenge. And I can't wait to meet the kids, and introduce my high energy coaching staff."
When asked how he thinks he will use the talent on his new roster to match the accomplishments from last year's record setting season, Coach Twist had this to say.
"We will be tweaking the scheme to accomodate every player's talents on this roster. In fact, I plan on using both QB's in certain packages."
The two Quarterbacks that Coach Twist is referring to, are Tyler Wilson (8) and Brandon Mitchell (17). Tyler Wilson, whom some have predicted will be the #1 QB drafted to the NFL this year, will be Arkansas front runner for the starting position. But Coach Twist has said several times that he plans on using his extremely athletic, 6'4" 230lb QB in certain sets.
"We just can't afford to keep either one of these kids on the sidelines," said Coach Twist about his two QB's, "Wilson and Mitchell each have their own skill sets, and we plan on using both of them on our way to a successfull season."
