Setting up QoS for gaming

Post by Hoos »

I just set this up on my router so I thought that I would share. QoS is quality of service. Basically, you're telling your router to identify traffic coming to and from your PS3 and give it top priority. Meaning, everything else on your network takes a backseat to your PS3.

Here is how you do it:

Go to your PS3 and go to system settings and then system information
the MAC address listed is what you will need

Sign on to your router's admin page (192.162.1.1 for most)
Find QoS (mine is listed under applications and gaming)
Enable QoS
From Applications, select MAC address
Enter any name
Enter the PS3's MAC address
Set the priority as high
Select add
Done

Have you noticed a difference on BlOps?

I lag like a SOB if I don't put my computer to sleep...

Also, I have DMZ and I set up Ports Forwarding, does all that remain the same? I'm so stupid about knowing this stuff, but I can do it no problem...lol

Every little bit helps but Blops is still a piece of shit. It's a giant step back in netcode.

I have this option in my router, but i'm wondering if me and my roommate are gaming at the same will it destroy his connection? can i make both of our systems as high priorities? with my internet connection it should be able to handle us both playing i'd think, thoughts?

I am not sure if QoS will mess up his connection or not, but with your ISP speeds, you will have no problem at all with both of you playing.

You have well more than enough download and upload speeds to handle 2 systems online at the same time.

That's the main reason we got it honestly.
