So, we have this customer that comes into one of our branches the other day and tells the loan officer how he is about to become rich. He has been told that he had a relative in England that just passed away and the relative has left him 48million. Of course, he needs to send 23k to a bank in England then he can have his 48mil.

It’s a scam and we try to talk him out of it. He proceeds to tell the people at the bank that he’s checked with the secret service (??) and an attorney and the entire thing is legit.

Of course, he has no money and wants a loan for the 23k. We tell him NO. So, the idiot goes and gets the money from his elderly mom.

We ended up printing off a bunch of stuff pertaining to the scam and traced the wire to The Bank of China (located in the UK). It’s then immediately transferred out of that bank into some offshore account that is located in a supermarket.

We are hoping that by showing him where his money is really going to go that he will finally understand it’s a scam. I have my doubts tho as this guy seems nuts.

So, for anybody that thinks these scams never work…you’re wrong.

The bank is in a tuff spot because the guy really owns 23k now. I think we have decided to decline sending the money no matter what the guy wants. The name of the bank and the wiring instructions don’t match so that is enough for us to say no. He can close out his account, and take his money to another bank.

I work for the City of Minneapolis and we take some police reports and I cant believe all the morons that have called us regarding receiving a money order for $2000 more than what they purchased an item for so then they send the difference back to the guy. Then a week later their account is 2K in the hole.

Yea, we have had those too. We literally had 100s of those checks rolling thru one week. It was a nightmare. They scammers even had a 1-800 number setup that you could call to verify the information that they provided.

It blows my mind that people get away with these things. I can't figure out how you do all this shit and remain anonymous. I guess a lot of it's done overseas, making it harder to track down and extradite people.

Basically, it is over. He was presented with the information we found showing it’s a scam. He still wasn’t convinced but reality finally started to kick in. We also refused to send the wire.

I’m pretty sure he will consult with another bank just to make sure that we aren’t BSing him. Hopefully, the dumbass will accept that he’s being scammed and give his mom back her money.
