Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
I'm at work, trying to get it goin on ChannelSurfing.
But following on the Sportsline gametracker.
Why in the world would the Patriots go for it on 4th and 2 from there own 28 yardline, up 6 with 2 minutes left???
I got the game up now, but unless I'm missing something, is this not one of the worst playcalls EVER???

That is simply one of the worts calls ever, plain and simple.
Even 4th and inches wouldn't be a great call, but it was 4th and 2 freaking yards.
I'm just dumbfounded that such a good coach would make such a terrible decision.

That's EXACTLY what I thought Luis.
He'll say he was just confident in his offense having all those weapons, but i think it's his ego getting in the way of him making a sound decision.

I don't think Belichick makes any decision based on ego. He would have been well gone. I disagree with the call - and you may know my theory on NEVER PUNTING - but the spot was awful.
If the Patriots didn't burn 17 timeouts in the second half, it would have been overturned.

Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
I think he had more confidence in his offense then he did his defense and didn't want Peyton with that ball again.

I was sittin here and watching it. I was honestly shocked that they went for it!! The spot was probably bad cause although he bobbled the ball I believe he had it in control right at the marker but oh well. The call itself was horrible, Indy had 1 Timeout and it would have been under a minute to go maybe 70 or 80 yards for a score rather than the ball around the 30 or so bad call no doubt. I don't think I've seen that bad a call in awhile and from a great coach like B.B., like I said I was shocked.

That theory would you get even a team like the Patroits about 10-13 losses every year.trendon wrote:I disagree with the call - and you may know my theory on NEVER PUNTING

That shit only works in high school with supremely talented teams.
Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
Bad calls can be reversed assuming you have time outs. However, the Patriots were too interested in playing grab ass on the sidelines and spent all three.
Bad timeout usage + tired defense + blind referee + Peyton Manning = Loss

Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
Mathematically speaking, punting has a negative expected value. I have the thesis somewhere on my other computer and Gregg Easterbrook wrote a synopsis about it once upon a time.shel311 wrote:That theory would you get even a team like the Patroits about 10-13 losses every year.trendon wrote:I disagree with the call - and you may know my theory on NEVER PUNTING![]()

Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
it was the correct call on the spot. he never had control of the ball at first , and when he finally did, he was at the 29.5 yard line. great call by the ref. just a stupid call by pats coach for giving manning 30 yards to go for the game winner. with that wayne td, i won my fantasy game!

Anyone not convinced the Patriots stop the Colts even after punting anyway?
That was a hell of a game though.

Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
i just cant believe you would go for it in that situation. Punt the ball maybe just maybe you stop the colts. You miss the first down the Colts are at the 30yd line. Bad coaching in my book. Either way i loved the game, awsome.
Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
my only issue with the call is that i truly believe he made that decision after they were stopped on 3rd down and in the heat of the moment. if you're going to go for it on 4th down, then you need know that on 3rd down and call the play accordingly. i realize the Pats struggle running the ball but 2 runs from 3rd and 2 and you should get yourself a 1st down.
i dont think the call is HALF as bad as people are making it out to be. Jack Del Rio is a fucking genius b/c he told MJD to stop at the 1 when they were losing. We're praising him and abusing Belicek... its a game of inches and BB wanted to be in control of the outcome, i can't blame him for that.
to be honest, i think the poor coaching decision was not letting Addai score with 1:11 to go, that would have given the Pats a little time to drive down field for a fg at least, instead they got the ball back with no chance

I agree with you on this. Belichick just had more confidence in his offense than he did in his defense at that moment Im thinking.DRiccio21 wrote:i dont think the call is HALF as bad as people are making it out to be. its a game of inches and BB wanted to be in control of the outcome, i can't blame him for that.
BUT I personally would have punted and let Manning beat you with possibly 60 or 70 yards to go and not only 30.
The real person to blame is Kevin Faulk for bobbling the catch and causing the horrible spot. He catches it cleanly game is over.

Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
Here is the way i see it. Punt the ball....period.
You are staking the whole game on one call. If you dont get it now that same guy you respect and fear with the ball only has 30 yards to go. If you punt it, a lot of crazy things can happen. The odds are on your side more than if you dont make it. Seems simple. I agree with whomever said it was a heat of the moment decision. Otherwise you have a better playcall on 3rd to set up for 4th down.
Cant hate him for it. Nothing wrong with having faith in Brady and his O. Just seemed like the risk/reward was not in his favor.

Re: Who's watching Colts-Patriots???
It was a ballsy call and it went against the Patriots. They gave the Colts the game. It was so sad as a Pats fan to lose to the Colts. This is the 2nd week in a row, that the Colts lucked out.
They always mention that you run a route an extra 2 yards in case of what happened.
I sure hope that the Patriots have to play the Colts again in the playoffs and they have a different outcome.
