Droid X
Re: Droid X
let me know what you think of it. Thinking of going with this.
Re: Droid X
I asked in a thread week or two ago and everyone loved the droid phones judging from that. I upgrade in August and will probably be getting this phone though. Droid X should be pretty good.
I have a question real quick thought not trying to hijack. Is the droid x $300 right but there is a $100 rebate? Or is it straight up $200? I'm a little hesitant to spend that much damn money on a phone just because it has some features that I don't really need but just want. Hopefully my upgrade discount could cut the price pretty well. I've been considering a nice blackberry for about half the price of droid x but just waiting to hear what people think of droid x too.

Re: Droid X
i'm getting it because of 2 things. 8 megapixel camera and it can act as an independent hotspot (not sure what the technical term for that is). so i can access the internet on my laptop as long as my phone is with me no matter where i am. that alone is pretty bad ass.

Re: Droid X
Post back on this thread any impressions you have. Very interested in hearing. I've got past paying for the whole $30 data plan, but the $300 + all the bullshit charges for setting it up, and then the $30 case that they press your ass and almost make you buy has me hesitant. Of course, my upgrade discount will shed some of that price (not sure how much to expect off but praying that it is significant).DRiccio21 wrote:i'm getting it because of 2 things. 8 megapixel camera and it can act as an independent hotspot (not sure what the technical term for that is). so i can access the internet on my laptop as long as my phone is with me no matter where i am. that alone is pretty bad ass.
Re: Droid X
i have verizon
i pay for my mom's, dad's, grandmothers and my girls phone plans for 160 a month. i get 1400 minutes, 5000 texts and unlimited data. to use the hot spot you get like 5 gigs (not sure if thats the right word, but you get 5 'somethings' to use for free)
so there is nothing i'm paying for differently with this phone unless i go over on the hot spot usage
i will definitely let you know my impressions when i get it... my upgrade is august 1st so i'll be getting it then.
i was hoping trendon or hoos or some other tech nerd would tell me if there were any other phones better or any other phones coming out in the next couple months that i should hold out for.

Re: Droid X
Riccio I believe there is a seperate fee for the wifi hotspot capabilities from your data plan.
The challenge for Verizon (the company closest to the end user) is that the hot-spot feature is not just an extra, like a video camera, that smartphone owners get for "free." It costs an additional $20 a month for 2GB of data and will probably be used heavily by professionals on the road. And so expectations for a good user experience will be higher than they would be in regard to a standard feature. (The HTC EVO 4G from Sprint also offers this feature for $29 a month with no data restriction).
Re: Droid X
Myself and Dak have the Evo 4G and love it, and I'm pretty sure this phone is similar so Id imagine a very pleasant experience would come with the Droid X
Re: Droid X
ahh i was given bad info then yesterday... i was told up to a certain amount of usage is included, i will look into thatShiftdnb wrote:Riccio I believe there is a seperate fee for the wifi hotspot capabilities from your data plan.

Re: Droid X
Just one year ago, they came out with the HTC Hero and the phone kicked ass. Reading about these two phones - the Droid and the EVO - you would think my phone (Hero) came out in 1952.DRWebs wrote:Myself and Dak have the Evo 4G and love it, and I'm pretty sure this phone is similar so Id imagine a very pleasant experience would come with the Droid X
Re: Droid X
I'm not really a phone nerd. I have a Droid and I love it. Best phone that I have ever had. However, most of my needs are based on work. I did pick the Droid over some of the newer phones because I liked the keyboard. I suck at touch screen typing.
My only complaint against the Droid is that I sometimes have problems getting my work emails. The BB was much better at handling pop emails.

Re: Droid X
i dont know what that means and thats very important to me... will my outlook still work on it for me?

Re: Droid X
It's supposed to work as is mine. There are a lot of factors that go into getting your emails. I don't think the Droid and the email server that we use at work like each other. I have trouble authenticating to it. I have zero problems getting my gmail. It's only my work ones that are a pain in the ass at time.
I have no idea what improvements have been made in the new one. You certainly want to express those concerns before you purchase. Maybe even test it out.

Re: Droid X
I just purchased one from a Verizon local store, as the $299.00 + $37.00 Nevada tax comes with a $100.00 rebate. Will not be getting this one until August 4th, as the store was sold out. The one on demo was nice, bulky phone, but youtube videos are nice and the 8 megapixel camera is pretty sweet. Later on, they will probably do the same thing with the other Droid, buy one, get the other one free. Data plan is $23.99 with my job discount per month + $118.00 per month on 2000 minutes of Talk + Unlimited text Messages, Picture, etc.. for three phone lines on the Family Share Plan. Oh, $7.99 per month for insurance on the phone if you lose or drop it.

Re: Droid X
i'm really disappointed with my Droid Eres.
It's slow as shit, I can't delete my text messages without my phone going bezerk and the camera is awful.
Hopefully you guys have a better experience, but mine sucks and i don't know if it's something I can take back the phone for

My wife at xmas last year decided she wanted a droid and went to best buy and took me there too. We got the HTC, i cant say i havent been more impressed. I get every email and the internet is fast. i ve told my wife for the last year or so that ive wanted an iphone but have never got one. Droid has been good to me and i can promise i havent even begun to acess this whole phone, but if i could get an iphone with the same reception i would buy one.....

Re: Droid X
Man, now my wife saw the X and held it, she wants one now. I guess I have to purchase another one for her to mess around with......

Re: Droid X
I'm an iPhone user, but if I was on verizon.. I'd be all over this phone.
It's a beast. Doesn't it have an HDMI port ?

Re: Droid X
Yes it does have a way to hook it up to a TV with HDMI.
