Re: League Daddy Rosters
I would have to imagine that it would create 2 of every player since if I add one now with the exact same information it adds it as a second player.
But not sure how their import function works. They may have it set to delete everything that is there and then updated with the new information.

Re: League Daddy Rosters
And obviously you'd have to reenter your stats if you've played a game and you delete your current players. Always something to consider.

Re: League Daddy Rosters
Reign, I was trying to get Maryland working for LytezOut.
I have it in Excel as a CSV file and also another file still as an excel format.
When I paste either one into a PM and send it to myself, when I copy and paste out of there into leaguedaddy, it is not importing the players.
Walk me through what you are doing different than me. So I can help guys out when they need it to, please.

Re: League Daddy Rosters
Yea I finally gave up on all of this and just copied and pasted a roster into excel. Then all I could get transferred over to leaguedaddy were names and position. But it still wasn't that easy, because the first and last name were in the same field and I think put the position in the last field name maybe. All I did was enter the stats and then edit the name for the player needed. Not easy, but way easier then typing the names from scratch. I've got this to work easily before, so was a little frustrating.

Re: League Daddy Rosters
When I've done this with success in the past (this year worked fine for me), I recall the following being important:
1. Paste the copied data from the online site into a text file first and save it as such (*.txt).
2. Import the txt file into excel being sure to select the proper delimiters (usually you can get it to seperate the first and last names by using either the comma or space delimiter). You also have to be sure to format the date column as a date during the importing process or it will screw it up into a weird number and you'll have a bitch of a time going back to the proper date format.
3. Make sure all your columns look good and are in the order LD asks for. This is tricky as LD shows the single player entry data as:
Name, #, Pos, Height, Weight, Year, DOB
But the import data must be in
#, Name, Pos, Height, Weight, Year, DOB
I usually just skip DOB. All it does is leave the "Age" column blank
Also, look for odd/extra columns caused by someone with a hyphenated name, a Jr, or "III" or whatever.
4. When your columns are done and correct, save as a comma delimited text file. Open that file with wordpad, copy all the lines, and paste into LD.
5. Done.
If the powers that be desire, I could work on this over the next week or two and try to do this for teams that are having trouble or can't get this to work. It only needs to be done once for all the teams for all three seasons we'll play. It does sound like it will require people to re-enter stats if they've already done so for early season games. I think I also have to be given access to the teams that need help. Alternatively I could try to post files for the teams that need it (already delimited), but that is not a great way to work it because if there is an error it will require iterating back and forth, whereas I can fix things quicker working on my own.
Just let me know (powers that be).

Re: League Daddy Rosters
I'm going to do Maryland's and walk you through it.
- Copied the file from umterps.com
- Paste Special - Unicode Text into Excel
- Deleted the Hometown Column
- Deleted the Varisty Letters Column
- Highlighted the Hgt column, Format - Cells - Date (used: 3/14)
- Data Sort Column A (numbers... to make sure everyone has one.. just something I do routinely now)
- Data Sort Column F (year... I replace the RS stuff with the year only just for cosmetics purposes, this file didn't have any)
- Data Sort Column C (replace the named positions with abbreviated positions)
- Highlight all columns - Find/Replace apostrophes with nothing (put in a space in the replace and backspace it out to ensure clear)
- Repeat the Find/Replace for Periods.
***Adjusting the names will vary by file, because some have it first name last and some use ",' as dividers.***
- Insert a few blank columns to the right of the name
- Highlight the name column: Data - Text to Columns - Check Delimited - Next - Uncheck Tab, Check Space, Check Treat Consecutive delimiters as one - Next - Check Text - Finish
- Review the column AFTER the last names to make sure no one was broken off, if so, fix it. (none in this case)
- Delete the extra blank columns
- For this one, you need to cut the last name column and insert it before the first name column.
- Double check that you have the right order that LD needs... (I messed up 2 of them, lol)
- File Save As .csv
- Close the file
- Navigate to the file location, select Open With (use right click if you didn't know): select Word
- Highlight all of the text - Find/Replace / with -
- Save
- Copy/Paste into PM/Import box... where ever
Here is my end result for Maryland. This should work. I always send them the disclaimer to send it back to me. I added in a few extra steps (deleting ' for instance) because I found that it was causing hang ups. Let me know if you have any issues with Maryland.
This seems like a lot, but I was pretty detailed with the steps. It really takes me about 5min, including finding the roster on a site. Super easy.

Re: League Daddy Rosters
Thanks Reign, I do basically everything that you do, I was just not putting them into Word before putting them into the PM.
So that is where I was messing up and I am on a different version of Excel on my work laptop, so some of the Excel options are different options for me...
But thanks for the info. And I offered to do this for all the teams still needing it too. Like Reign, if I had admin access to leaguedaddy, it would take me just a couple minutes per team as I dont even have to save it as a CSV. Just pasting them right out of excel works when I do them under my team. It puts the proper spacing between each set of data and leaguedaddy accepts it that way.
But it was losing those spaces when I was putting them into a PM and trying to send them.
So thanks again.

So thanks again.
And if AJ or someone wants me to help on leaguedaddy, I am sure between a few of us, if we all had the right access, we could start our own thread and just take certain teams and knock them out in a couple hours.dakshdar wrote:If the powers that be desire, I could work on this over the next week or two and try to do this for teams that are having trouble or can't get this to work.

It literally takes 10-20 minutes to either sit down with your laptop in-front of the PS3 and type the rosters in or write them down on a sheet paper and then type them in your computer. I've been doing rosters on LD this way since NCAA 2004.

We're a spoiled society, no doubt.
Niddler - There's something that's not right with admin access, I have it in LD and I still can't do other teams. It's strange. I think you have to be the commish only maybe?

Re: League Daddy Rosters
You guys could do the teams that aren't done yet and email them to BigMike, Nole or AJ and they could import them. I don't want to commit them to doing anything more than they already do (which is greatly appreciated) but it is a solution.
