Defensive Line Shiftting
Defensive Line Shiftting
1st off this is not a debate on my coach's report. I was talking to a few people and was wondering what is the league take on this? In moderation I feel its ok but a constant is to much. Please be adult about it.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
what I hate is people who put people in motion every play. its garbage. very few people do it but when they do it erks the hell out of me.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
I dont play this game much, but I havent really seen anything out there yet that takes advantage of AI. I have zero issues with shifting/motion

Think its fine. Especially when the offense has overloaded line to one side.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
If there is an unbalanced offensive line I would expect a lot of people would shift the DL, but yea when people do it every play it ticks me off as well.WJ5811 wrote:Think its fine. Especially when the offense has overloaded line to one side.

Have you noticed it giving that team an advantage?fsupenguin wrote:If there is an unbalanced offensive line I would expect a lot of people would shift the DL, but yea when people do it every play it ticks me off as well.WJ5811 wrote:Think its fine. Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
I could care less, but I do have a problem with a 3 man front always pinched down. Haven't seen that as much this year though.

That seems very easily beatable.cougnix wrote:I could care less, but I do have a problem with a 3 man front always pinched down. Haven't seen that as much this year though.
Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
I have not seen it done to where the DL has total domination because of the shift. I am actually shifting and crashing and still get beat alot.
I think both are reasonaable but as we have said here plenty of times ::: Moderation is key in all that we do.
it is not as extreme in this version like it was when they first introduced it.

I don't know, I just keep hearing guys say they hate when someone does something, but then don't explain why.
I haven't noticed any difference in line blocking or advantages to be taken of by line shifting, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.
Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
I move my DL almost every play. Got nailed by one opponent for it although he said I "crashed" my dline whatever that means. Why would anyone have a problem with this every play if it doesn't mess with the AI one bit?

I'm sure some guys feel it does fuck with the AI, right or wrong, who knows.packsyD22 wrote: Why would anyone have a problem with this every play if it doesn't mess with the AI one bit?
But I'm 100% certain that there are some guys that will complain about it without ever noticing that it actually did fuck with the AI. It's just another one of those things that used to be glitchy, and lots of us don't change our thought processes as newer versions come out and things get fixed.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
isnt crashing when you tell your like to pinch, contain, go left or right? I know its different then shifting. I shift when the oline is one sided and I tell my line to pinch or go left and right if I feel like thats the way the play is going? Is this ok? I have never heard anyone complain about it because I know i dont do it a lot but just wondering as well.
Honestly if i see someone shift to one side I might audible to go the other direction. There is a tough of things people can complain about but honestly its all about the persons preference. Like me if you throw slants, ins and outs all game and dont throw more then 5 yards down the field that irks me.
Nice thread Doc I am interested in peoples thoughts because I know I do like to shift my line from time to time. Also Packysy I agree I feel it was glitchy in the past couple versions but this one it works realistically.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
sliding the line over? or choosing 'run right' or whatever
the first part, if done in moderation, i would never think of docking for. choosing a 'crash right' or 'crash left' i'd dock on reports.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
rule says this although it was updated for 2011 and not 2012 yet I am assuming but this is all I could find on DL
Defensive Line: the defensive line is to ONLY be moved within the AUTOMATIC SHIFTS provided in the game NO MANUAL MOVEMENT of D-line. You are not allowed to move any DL-man, either laterally or vertically, manually before the snap. After the snap feel free to move him back into coverage.
I have never heard the NDL uppers banning line crashing or stuff. Just that it was to not be abused.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
I shift my DL on any play that has a TE. I was hit on my coaches report for it. That is standard procedure in a 4-3 defense.
I've heard people say that it screws with AI blocking, so I decided to investigate that. If you hold back your play art button, you can see as the shift happens, then as the LBs/DBs move ON THEIR OWN, the blocking gets screwy. But as soon as the auto movement is done, everything is fine and the players react properly. I had a feeling this was the case, because there was some discussion early about the 1-5-5 prowl playing hell with blocking and the simple answer is, wait until the guys are done moving and you're fine. If guys are shifting, then crashing to take advantage of an overload against a no TE look, that's a questionable. Otherwise, everyone needs to unbunch their panties and understand that it's part of the game. Sounds like another example of people complaining without understanding what is going on, then just playing it off that it's not 'sim' because they don't do it. Here's a strange thought, why not ask the other coach why they are moving so much, instead of just docking them on their report and not doing anything to advance their gameplay or understand it yourself. This stuff never ceases to amaze me.

Re: Defensive Line Shiftting
I have got nailed about my dline shifting i did it just before the snap in a game and it was discussed and I never did it again after that. But I don't see a problem if you are getting beat by outside runs or just want to move your line to the strong side or even if you have a blitz and you shift to that side to help with that it is all done in real game play. It's not like if you see the Dline shift you can't change the direction of your run or look for the opening pre-snap. But I just decided not to do it at all if it can be avoided.
