Well he was big, but not to awesome.
I used to have the Billy Ripken "Fuck Face" card
that was my crown jewel

Re: NBA Thread
I remember as a youth, trading an Upper Decker card that was worth $15 (there was something wrong with it) for a Derrick Thomas rookie card, who was my favorite player. When he died I remember going to my mom and telling her how excited I was that he had died because my card was probably worth $5 more!
My mom was so disgusted (this is a person whose parents went to church almost every day) that she made me throw away all my cards.
(she actually hid them, except for the Thomas card which she threw away).
I remember trying to make her understand why Thomas dying was a good thing. I was baffled she didnt understand the concept.

That is awesome.

Re: NBA Thread
Well, if Wade and LeBron are better than Kobe then certainly they should win not 1, not 2, not 7....
I know Dave may not "hate" Kobe but he put LeBron #2 behind Jordan, so he's as much of a James nuthugger as I am a Kobe one.
But anyway.

The one thing I give Matt is his consistency.nick wrote:Robert Horry > Kobe cause he has like 15 rings
My favorite, and I think best comparison when people overvalue rings is Tony Parker. No one ever puts Parker in their top 5 current PGs yet ye has more titles and Finals MVPs than basically everyone's top 5 PGs combined.
But as for Matt, when I used this example on him, he did say that Tony Parker was the best PG in the game, so I gotta give him credit for sticking to his guns, his silly, silly guns.

Parker is abetter example because he's a really good PG.nick wrote:Trent Dilfer > Dan Marino
Re: NBA Thread
Again, this is the same argument as Dilfer > Marino.nick wrote:Robert Horry > Kobe cause he has like 15 rings
Nobody compares them
Kobe is a superstar and, whether you like it or not, one of the best to ever play the game of basketball. You can't argue that, and I saw even Dave say he's top 25 all time. Nobody is going to say Dilfer or Horry is top 25 all-time.
When it comes to comparing athletes on a similar level of talent, championships can certainly be an argument. Is Kobe the best player in the NBA right now? I think LeBron is better right now. Kobe is old and worn down. But regardless, Kobe's accomplishments can't just go unseen because LeBron has 0 titles. James will certainly win 1, maybe more. Kobe won 2 titles as the best player on a team without another superstar. All the people in the LBJ corner screaming "Kobe had Shaq" have really set themselves up when LeBron wins one with Wade and Bosh (since I'm sure someone will mention Gasol.)

Re: NBA Thread
if Lebron plays 10 more years and wins 10 rings, my opinion of his talents and how good he is will not change.

They don't. He's certainly playing well this season.Matt90210 wrote:Why wouldn't they?shel311 wrote:No one ever puts Parker in their top 5 current PGsnick wrote:Robert Horry > Kobe cause he has like 15 rings
But before that: Paul/Rose/Westbrook/Nash/Rondo
It's not easy to make an argument for Parker over any of those guys.
Re: NBA Thread
Kobe is (and was) the clearcut best player on the Lakers team (in the 2 hes won without Shaq). If LeBron wins, even being clearcut, he still has Dwayne Wade, one of the better players in the NBA today.shel311 wrote:Shaq was the clearcut best player on those teams.Matt90210 wrote:All the people in the LBJ corner screaming "Kobe had Shaq" have really set themselves up when LeBron wins one with Wade and Bosh

Re: NBA Thread
Correct, but that has nothing to do with the people saying "Kobe had Shaq" that you brought up.Matt90210 wrote:Kobe is (and was) the clearcut best player on the Lakers team (in the 2 hes won without Shaq).
Correct.Matt90210 wrote:If LeBron wins, even being clearcut, he still has Dwayne Wade, one of the better players in the NBA today.
But you're not addressing the point you made. THe point about saying Kobe had Shaq, and Lebron having Wade. Shaq=best player on the team. Lebron=Best player on the team.
So...
Re: NBA Thread
you should go look up the Heats record without Wade in the lineup.. something like 13-1? ya, Lebron def NEEDS Wade lol. Theyre willing to say Lebrons a better player without Wade cause he doesnt have to pass the ball up as much.Matt90210 wrote:Kobe is (and was) the clearcut best player on the Lakers team (in the 2 hes won without Shaq). Re: NBA Thread
What elsekills me is you show no respect to Pau but yet actually have the nerve to say BOSH when speaking about the Heat. LOL, thats funny to me.
Re: NBA Thread
Gasols career numbers: 18.7 PPG, 2.3 TO, .5 steals, 1.7 block, 3.2 assist, 9.2 rebounds, 75% free throw shooting, 52% FG shooting
Bosh career numbers: 19.8 PPG, 2.1 TO, .8 steals, 1.1 block, 2.1 assists, 9.1 rebounds, 79% free throw shooting, 49% FG shooting
It's not "nerve" or "no respect." They are pretty damn close.
