no.

in laymans terms the "long way"....

u gotta get the 130 on the left to equal the right

7 is on bottom so you need 7 x 130 to be the top number (910)

whatever the square root is you'll multiply by the 10 outside of the symbol.....910 divided by 10 is 91

what is 91 the square root of? (91x91=8281)

we already have 5345 in there so we just need 1/3x to equal whatever added to 5345 = 8281

8281-5345=2946

2946+5345=8281 - check

1/3 of 2946 = 982

voila...code.

(before any teachers respond, yes..i am of course aware i can simplify the demonitor by multiplying both sides by 7 then solving but I find when explaining math (not in a school environment)..people learn easier with good old fashion deduction

1/3rd of 8808 is 2936

2936 + 5345 = 8281

square of 8281 = 91

91 x 10 = 910

910 / 7 = 130

therefore X is 8088 lol

X by 7 both sides.

10sqrt(1/3X + 5345) = 910

Divide by 10

sqrt(1/3X + 5345) = 91

Square both sides

1/3X + 5345 = 8281

Subtract 5345

1/3X = 2936

Multiply by 3

X = 8808

Who would have guessed that Nick would be the first to answer correctly. When pappafingers Nole threw out his answer I just assumed it was 100% correct, he sounded so damn positive he got it.

Considering it takes all of 12 seconds to solve this with any calculator, I wouldn't have made any bets on anyone answering correctly first. Too easy.

I wouldn't even know how to put that in a calculator so it definitely would have taken more than 12 seconds for me.

Yes, it is 8808. He was a junior, but it is a regulars Algebra 2 class and for the majority of them this problem would be very difficult. It was for him.
