A Trip Down Memory Lane (Bernie's Bombers)
I originally suggested this to Nick for his Team of the Year subject. Make it like a Silver Slugger for each league and he can backtrack to past seasons at his leisure, but I guess he didn't like it.
These are purely subjective, my opinion, and just for fun. I will call them Bernie's Bombers. But feel free to critique, clarify, or bring up omissions/snubs.
I will try to release two years at a time.
2010 was pretty cut and dry. Only 8 teams in each league, made it rather easy. Hollywood(4) and Hartford(3) dominated the Atlantic while Sheltown(4) ran the Pacific. Some big names on the list while some rather obscure ones as well. Stanley Williams and William Brown put up some monster seasons as 1-hit wonders. Still don't remember Flannery, but do remember "Boxcar" Cortes. How did Sheltown lose in 2010??
Averages for PL don't include pitcher.
Notable Snubs:
AL 1B Cullen Lorenzen, Hartford .340 avg
PL OF Bill Pickett, Westerville 33hr 126rbi .909ops
PL OF Corey Bowden, Albany 35hr 120rbi
Concordia(3) and Port Orange(2) led the AL, while the PL saw three teams with 2 guys. Sheltown, NorCal, and Steel City. Joe Telvest's Triple Crown season was an easy choice. While the PL saw two 1-hit wonders. Alonso Cruz's 158 RBI's was a record for quite some time and the season Tom Clark put together is just as impressive as Telvest's, just unfortunately ran into Cruz's 158 RBI's and Parker's .393 average. Douglas, Rojas, and Jaime Cruz earn their second award.
And no, Jiu's 6 doubles is not a typo.
Notable Snubs:
AL OF Pablo Bojorquez, New England 35hr 124rbi
AL 3B Ken Williams, Hollywood 28hr 104rbi
PL OF Bill Pickett, Steel City 26hr 103rbi .899ops
PL 3B Dwayne Wolf, Sioux City .303avg 28hr 96rbi
PL 3B Sixto Zambrano, Westerville .333 13hr 74rbi

Whoa, this is awesome. I'll never get back to my glory days, man.
I see a Tom Clark sighting in there, my favorite OOTPer of all time. His stats are off the charts, getting drafted and hitting over .500 in 2 stops in the minors before getting a quick call up and hitting over .400 in a few ML games. Then he had that rookie season...then he was never heard from again

I may be the GM closest to a title who doesn't have a title, that's a great distinction to have
And we all know how I lost in 2010, we all know!!!

Great inaugural year. Looking at the history, he was around 20 when he had that season? He coulda been somebody!!!DRiccio21 wrote:i always thought Hai Feng Jiu was a sure fire hall of famer. then he just fell off a cliff

25% Jim Kellly. He did it 4 times, I only did it once.Seeitsaveit13 wrote:Ok Jim Kelly...shel311 wrote:Bernie32 wrote:How did Sheltown lose in 2010??

Re: A Trip Down Memory Lane (Bernie's Bombers)
2012 we expanded from 16 to 18 with Philadelphia and Chicago LOL entering the league. Neither team made much of a splash in this season, Ryan Parker did start the year with Philadelphia, but was traded to Sheltown very early in the season. Parker went on to have two 5-for-5 games against the Whalers that year. Fellow HOF'er Domingo Valles makes his first appearance and Don Douglas and Robinson Rojas each make it for the third straight year. Two very underrated players in our history, Kyle Edgar and Yukinaga Kamida make their first appearances with solid seasons.
Notable Snubs:
AL 1B William Abbott, New England 34hr 116rbi .897ops
AL 2B Antonio Ibarra , New England .303avg 32hr 73rbi .918ops
AL 2B Marc Hughes, Philadelphia/Sheltown .330avg 17hr 95rbi .921ops
PL OF Corey Bowden, Albany 32hr 126rbi
PL 2B Juan Arroyo, Texas .299avg 16hr 79rbi .896ops
2013 saw the Pacific League introduce the DH, good thing for Pedro Cisneros. He earns his first nod, but wouldn't have if Douglas stayed at 1B. Douglas and Rojas continue their dominance, each gaining their fourth straight award. Telvest gained his third, despite playing in only 88 games. In 257 less at-bats, Telvest only had 26 fewer hits than Jaime Cruz. Port Orange started showing early signs of their dynasty run with 3 players named. Story of the year was Bill Pickett though. Triple crown winner with an outstanding 1.115ops.
Notable Snubs:
AL 1B Jaime Cruz, Hartford 36hr 107rbi .895ops
AL OF Francisco Oliva, New England 35hr 115rbi .883ops
AL OF Alfonso Rigsby, Hartford .320avg 31hr 104rbi .907ops
PL 2B Francisco Vargas, Albany .333avg 13hr 90rbi .894ops

Re: A Trip Down Memory Lane (Bernie's Bombers)
In 2014, we saw more expansion with Seattle and Washington entering the league. Back then, Ted was the NG in the NGR. Did filling out to 20 teams water down performance? No, we actually saw a slight uptick in average OPS for both leagues. But it was more balanced as there weren't a lot of "great" seasons. Jose Suarez did put up the best season we have ever seen from a catcher. Totoya Memoto, before going on to pitching fame, was the only player to have an OPS over 1.000, barely. Robinson Rojas and Don Douglas continued their dominance over the league, each garnering their fifth nod. Alex Amaya wins his first award.
Notable Snubs:
AL 1B William Abbott, New England .301avg 27hr 105RBI .930ops
AL 3B Domingo Vargas, Philadelphia .331avg 4hr 107rbi .816ops
AL SS Jose Chavez .281avg 28hr 93rbi
AL OF Alfonso Rigsby, Hartford .298avg 38hr 105rbi
2015 was a changing of the guard, 14 out of the 18 winners are first-timers. And it showed, both leagues put up their lowest average OPS. Kind of a boring year, not too many snubs or hard decisions. We catch our first sight of Ramon Ruiz, Paco Barron and Jim Cole. Barron struck out just 28 times, almost had more stolen bases than K's, as a 21-yr old. Abbott and Bowden put up career years after just missing a couple of times.
Notable Snubs:
AL 3B Andrew Crosby, New England 35hr 104rbi
AL SS Jose Chavez, Port Orange 27hr 106rbi
PL DH Pat Johnson, Albany .290avg 30hr 114rbi .887ops
PL OF Kyle Edgar, Denver .299avg 25hr 107rbi .883ops
Six seasons down. That's a third of the way through our 18 seasons in the books.
Re: A Trip Down Memory Lane (Bernie's Bombers)
awesome, this is the season before I started... I remember promptly trading Ruiz and Guerrero. one was a great decision the other, not so much.
Re: A Trip Down Memory Lane (Bernie's Bombers)
is 2015 when i left and Ry took over New England?
i don't remember Vega or Crosby. but i don't have a great memory.

Re: A Trip Down Memory Lane (Bernie's Bombers)
It could be. Although I never actually left, I was on auto-pilot for a while with computer problems and then Trendon's issues. I wasn't around for much of 2012-2014 seasons. 2015 was when I came back about a month into the season. I remember Trendon was going to clear the dead weight upon his return and I had to send him a PM to give me some time, but don't cut me.DRiccio21 wrote:is 2015 when i left and Ry took over New England?
