I have a friend that's seriously trying to convince me to buy a Hellcat. That's a tough sell though... not sure I'm ready to put down $63k on a new car. I think I'd lean towards a Jeep SRT8 (used, about 45-50k) before that. The idea of 700hp and a 204mph top end is pretty nice though... not that I'd ever see it.

707 hp is insane and Ford says they are going to top it. Seriously? Most people can't handle 300 hp and they prove it every day with all the wrecks. That being said, I'd like to test drive the new Challenger with the Hellcat.

I want it to be fun for me to drive, but still realistic for my full family to ride in it. So that typically rules out things like a Challenger, Mustang or Camaro (along with some imports I'd enjoy like an Evo / STI).

My wife has been hinting that she wants me to get an SUV in the next 2yrs, but I'm not a huge fan of most of them. I love the Jeep SRT8, I could live with a used Trailblazer SS, but beyond that, the options are slim. I have a friend with a BMW X3, which is certainly too small, but just based on looks, maybe an X5 50i would be an option. Most of the nice used ones I have seen are in Florida... seems like the trendy thing down there.

Spydie/Chris was in town for a Chrysler convention at Disney.

Met up with him and his family for a couple beers. He said he has 5 guys waiting for the Hellcat at his dealership already and he thinks he will only be getting 1 at a time based on something Chrysler/Dodge puts into place based on your sales or allocation?

I loved my Cherokee when I had it but I love my Ram a lot more. Wife wants an SUV as well so a Jeep would be our first choice followed closely behind with the new Durangos which I like as well. The SRT8 Jeeps are great.

I test drove a Ram Big Horn when I purchased my G8. I just didn't think I could make it work with more than 1 kid. That... and I was pretty convinced that there was no way my wife could drive it without playing bumper cars.

You mean size wise?

That is what I have. A '13 Big Horn and its funny because my wife drives it during the week due to her working less than 3 miles from home and the Charger gets better HWY MPG. She loves driving it but she parks as far away as possible as parking it can be a little tough for her. We drive it on the weekend though as it is better for Bed Bath and Beyond visits and such.

Me too, but I w pi ls never pay that much.

Thinking of trying to pick up a M1101 Humvee trailer. It's all aluminum and then try to build my own trail trailer that is camper capable. I was thinking a solid top that has an extra flip out to place a tent. Under it I can have all my trail tools, cots, coolers, and fire wood for a good weekend.

My wife wants the q50. I like it. Maybe not in that color though. She wants black or white.

What a sham....

Shell Notes.. "Ford Mustang EcoBoost has fake engine soundtrack"

Ford Mustang Ecoboost

The 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost represents a huge change for the Blue Oval as the first pony car in decades to be available with a four-cylinder engine. But a recent tweet (below) from Road & Track raised our curiosity about the new vehicle. Editor Jason Cammisa pulled a fuse while driving the latest 'Stang with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, and he found that both the stereo and engine went quiet in the cabin. That indicated the coupe might have some form of artificial engine sound being piped in – a feature not previously heavily reported for the model. Autoblog spoke with Ford engineer Shawn Carney who confirmed that only the turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang comes with this system, called Active Noise Control.

@jasoncammisa pulls fuse 27 on 4cyl #2015mustang EcoBoost. Both stereo & engine go quiet. #FakeEngineNoise #busted!

12:54 PM - 17 Sep 2014

In fact, Carney is partially responsible for tuning and shaping the EcoBoost's note in the Mustang, and he said the setup serves two distinct functions. First, it cancels out some of the coarse noise as part of the 'Stang's refinement strategy. It also allows Ford to enhance things by "layering in certain sound characteristics on top of what's already there," he said. To determine the right mix, the engine processor monitors torque output and changes things accordingly. "The intent is to be a natural experience," said Carney.

According to Carney, Mustang fans actually helped to shape the enhancement mix. Ford held clinics with clubs dedicated to the model and played different "sound concepts" for them. With that input, the company eventually narrowed it down to a final one.

Some drivers might find some potential downsides to Active Noise Control, though. For buyers that hate the idea of artificial sound in the cabin, the system can't be turned off (except pulling the fuse and killing the radio). If you like the way your 2015 Mustang sounds with ANC on, we hope you like the sound of the original stereo, too. The tech is integrated into the head unit, so if you upgrade your audio system, your car's powertrain isn't going to sound the same.

Who buys the eco-boost for sound? If you want a great sounding motor, get the coyote 5.0. The coyote also has sound directed into the cabin via the sound tube. It runs from the intake into the firewall and gives you engine noise in the cabin. You can delete the sound tube without disabling the stereo though. lol

Why in the world would you intentionally try to have the inside of your car be noisy?

Part of the appeal of a pony car is the sound of the motor. In a family car not so much. In all honesty it isn't loud inside with the sound tube. It is still a relatively quiet ride. You can just hear the motor's tone when you really step on it. I'm sure it is the same with the Eco-boost. It's 310 hp and they want you to hear it I guess.
