Looking for a quality receiver to serve as an hdmi hub for my tv, nvidia shield, and a console.

Needs to be 4K able and have a minimum of 4hdmi ports.

Haven't found a price I like yet as its only going to be used for the above and not speakers.

No luck at bb this weekend as I looked for open box buys.

going to go with either a PS4 or Xbox 1 for the kids this christmas, I have seen bundles with both but any recommendations on which bundle is worth the money? The kids pretty much like all the games that are with the bundles.

Very similarly priced between the 2 consoles so it really depends what you want. I think the XB1 is the more well rounded console as you get a better overall experience with integration of TV and features, but the PS4 is the more powerful in terms of gameplay and things like that but not by much.

Here is almost every single bundle deal out there today:

I'm curious why you want to use a receiver for this. Seems like overkill...?

Not sure why they wouldn't work. Reviews seem good. Worth a shot for $40 and Amazon return is pretty easy if it doesn't work out for you.

I have used HDMI splitters before.
Just have to make sure it is an auto switching one.
Also, it will switch to whatever was the last device to turn on.
so if you have the cable box on, but then turn on your PS4, but don't actually want the PS4 on the tv, who knows why, but it will switch to the last item to turn on.

He said something about the video source and sound not working?

I have a sound bar that the TV is currently plugged into but the actual devices like my console and streaming box will be about 5 feet away as the tv is mounted and the others are in a unit.

I have a single HDMI running from the TV, through the wall, to the wall unit 5 feet away. My thought was run that single HDMI into a splitter in the input, and the other devices into the HDMI ports but he said it wouldn't work.

I trust Pino but will let him weigh in. :)

If you mean run the single HDMI into the output port on a hub and the other devices into the input ports, technically speaking that should work fine. A "splitter" won't work as that takes a single HDMI input and splits it to multiple outputs. You need the other way around (hub or switch is what I think they're technically called).

Here's another with even more reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H9642JS?psc=1

I guess I would expect something that has 4.5 stars on 1000+ reviews to pretty much do what it says.

In researching a little more, yes i was incorrect. Not a splitter but a switcher as I didn't know they were 2 different things.

A switcher will definitely work and I am going to check some out and see which one to grab.

Thanks for the help.

Corey, $399 for a home theater receivers if you are still looking that way:

http://electronics.woot.com/plus/bringi ... l_cnt_wp_2

But I agree that a switcher will work better and much cheaper.

If you ever want home audio items though, find someone that works at best buy and pay them cash. They get half off of home/car audio.

Yea, went with the switcher for $40.

Will try that first and see how it works and then possibly upgrade in the future.
