In Phoenix for 5 days. Any must visit eateries I can take my wife too for good food, cheap drinks and a cool atmosphere?

Check our The Arrogant Butcher downtown. It is next to the Basketball & Baseball stadiums.

Re: Phoenix
My buddy lives in Scottsdale and there is quite a bit around there to do.
The Dirty Dogg Saloon is a fun bar. If your wife is with you, she may not approve, but bartenders get on the bar and do some dancing and wet t-shirt contests, hoolahooping, etc. clothes stay on, but barely.
Shotgun Betty's was another fun bar in the area but it closed.
It was located at 7330 E Stetson Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85251 and that is a fun area. Quite a few bars/restaurants around that area to check out.
Arizona State University in Tempe has a few fun bars and the scenery is top notch.
Blasted Barley Beer Company is where I visited and it was a lot of fun.

That is all within about a 15-20 minute drive from Phoenix.
Plenty of hiking out there if you are into that.
At Arizona State University, you can hike the "A" Mountain.
If you are into golf, while a bit expensive, TPC Scottsdale is a public course and a great one.
Tons of wine bars in the area.
Downtown Scottsdale has a few different neighborhoods that offer quite a bit to do.
I got this from a website, but Discover historic Scottsdale in Old Town, browse the galleries of the Arts District, shop along Fifth Avenue or discover the energy of Scottsdale after dark in the Entertainment District.

Re: Phoenix
Cool place with good atmosphere that you will enjoy is called Ztejas - its a modern Mexican eatery but its been upscaled a bit.
pedal house brewery, four peaks brewery and the handlebar are places I go to when there.
there is also a World of Beer there in tempe.
