Re: College Football 2016 Thread
One of Strong's biggest advantage is recruiting south Florida.
He had Bridgewater leave Miami and go to Louisville and over 75% of his Louisville teams were from Florida guys.
Sure I have faith in Richt to lock up a lot of the south but he will definitely impact the recruiting makeup in Florida.
Great hire by usf.

Could be my crimson glasses but Allen looks way better than Garrett.

Might be late to the party but LSU hiring Matt Canada to be their OC feels pretty underwhelming at first glance. Wasn't he just fired from the NC State job recently? Maybe just one of those good coordinators that just doesn't fit as a HC?

Re: College Football 2016 Thread
He's solid. He was at IU for a while and then at NIU after Bill Lynch got fired at IU. I'm pretty sure he was NIU's OC during the Jordan Lynch years. His offenses were pretty creative and he did a good job of playing to the strengths of his team. I think he was probably just in a shitty situation at NC State.DRWebs wrote:Might be late to the party but LSU hiring Matt Canada to be their OC feels pretty underwhelming at first glance. Underwhelming end of this LSU story after Miles was fired.
No big name as head coach.
No big name for OC.
That may set them up to overachieve based on what people expected to happen after they missed on Hermann.

Re: College Football 2016 Thread
We definitely whiffed on the head coach, but as I've said before, that seems to be 75% luck, or more. See the RichRod article I posted last week, that's basically 100% lucking into 4 titles, but I'm not bitter or anything!!!
Keeping our defensive coordinator from bolting to Texas was pretty big, and so is his new contract.
I believe Kiffin took a 50% paycut to be a head coach, so it looks like we didn't really have a shot there. I agree that Canada isn't a big splash but seeing how Kiffin wanted to be a head coach apparently, Canada was probably the biggest/best realistic name out there.
We have zero issues bringing in top recruiting classes and by all accounts, Orgeron is one of the premier recruiters in CFB. We have no issues building defenses. So this Matt Canada guy has a lot of pressure on him as offense is our only missing link, and it has been for 10 years now.
