He walked out of the hospital looking pretty good minus the arm. My guess is that it was a low speed t-bone and he was driving with his arm outside the window.

Former Raider says that the helmet makes the player and supports AB. I say the NFL let AB play with the old helmet as long as he signs a no-fault clause for any head injuries. Guy wants to go out there and play without a helmet and be an idiot, do so. The threatening retirement and walking away from close to $30M is just plain dumb. I hope the NFL calls his bluff, if they don't it opens more doors for other players of this caliber to threaten retirement to get what they want. Doesn't look good for the NFL if they do cave

Not just his, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers both say they don't like the new helmet. I think it's a fit thing. Maybe a field of view thing as well?

I was too small to play football after my freshman year (maybe 5'5 120lbs back then) so I focused on baseball/swimming/diving, so does the helmet have that much of an impact on "how you play"

I was a QB, helmet itself had zero effect other than comfort. Facemask on the other hand absolutely made a difference with regards to vision

There is a little difference on side/side, top/back weighting, so I could see it at that level. For the average schmo, you probably wouldn't know the difference. As Weasel said, facemask is a huge deal.

I am sorry, but I disagree.
From Pee-wee football on up, 10 years Max for a helmet and they get reconditioned/tested on a regular basis (every other year usually).

I get that he may not like the new helmets, but I find it hard to believe that players of his caliber, cannot get it approved to get a "new" helmet of the old style that he likes and it get certified and pass the tests it needs to in order to be deemed safe to play football.
I am sure some helmet company would be willing to make him a helmet that he wants that could still pass the testing it needs.

And they did call his bluff. The arbitrator sided with the NFL and I believe I saw that AB was at practice.

I agree that the facemask makes the biggest difference.
And to nick's comment, a lot of newer helmets, you have very little issues seeing, provided you have the right facemask. The helmet itself doesn't block anything anymore.

As Reign stated, the weighting and such could be different and for a guy in the NFL, it could be a pretty big difference.
Just like baseball players getting bats made a very particular way.
It is incredible the differences baseball players can feel just by picking up a bat.

Honestly, I think it's a good thing for the NFL as a whole that the arbitrator sided with the NFL. This could have led down a long rabbit hole had the decision when the other way.

I definitely agree with you there.
My thought is, too bad, so sad. From testing, again, from Pee-Wee leagues on up, helmets should not be used after 10 seasons.
Deal with it AB, it has been this way since you were 5 years old playing football.

This was called offensive pass interference on the Redskins guy, challenged, and upheld.
