Yea the waterpark opens in may. Fantastic grounds and tons of things to do for the kids.

AJ/Peay, who gets the pick the mascots and logos for schools?

Some are very questionable and others are fantastic color schemes and logos.

I always wondered about that.

I know when our school was formed, we had 4 high schools that joined to create it, students, teachers and staff all got to vote.
We got to vote on the logo, colors and name.
It came down to the Rebels, Buckeyes and Panthers and we are the Buckeye Local Panthers with Silver and Blue as our colors.

This was back in like 1989 with the school officially opening in 1991.

In the case of consolidations like Niddler just described it will sometimes be a vote among the staff and students. Sometimes the school board will make the decision. When the schools consolidating have a little rough history between them the school board will usually make the decision and choose something extremely neutral and inoffensive to any of the communities. When new schools are founded it's usually the school board that makes the decision with input from the community.

My high school was a consolidation that took place my sophomore year. We had a day where all the students from all three schools got together in the gym and voted on mascots, colors, and school songs. The original three schools were the Switz City Central Tigers, Worthington Ramblers, and the L&M (which itself was an earlier consolidation between Lyons and Marco high schools) Braves. We ended up being the White River Valley Wolverines. It was a very "rustic" part of Indiana so incredibly enough "River Rats" was the second highest vote getter.

There are new schools going up on every corner in the area where I live and I was curious how the process went after seeing some of the blatant rip offs of pro teams and logos.

My favorite is the Roach Middle School "Roach Band" bumper stickers that are knockoffs of the video game Rock Band.

Those are fantastic!!

High School logo was pretty simple and classic.


Football uniforms were just as simple... dark blue & white... no logos.

Damn, Chris Berman worked like a crazy person for 30+ years helping to make ESPN what it is today. He didn't retire, but he took a much lesser role just a few months ago in January, and I can only guess that he had more time to spend with his wife recently than he ever had before.

She died in a car accident yesterday.
