Listen to Dave... I made my winnings when DFS was on the rise as I was a bit ahead of the curve. Even then, I was putting in 3hrs + per day. My net profit was really nice, but I did the math at one point and I think it came out to something like $18-$20 per hour over my first 2 years, starting with a $50 deposit.

There's a reason that I've haven't consistently played for nearly 2 years now. A.) Time commitment to be great is huge. B.) More people are playing on a level that so much more advanced. I just read a perfect example about an hour ago concerning a user named maxdalury. I think I've mentioned him on here... the guy was a complete joke when he first started playing. I took at least 4k off of him in the first month he showed up on FanDuel and DraftStreet. He's now a DFS god and is living one helluva life because of it.

I do really well with soccer, but I'm not playing every game, every weekend; and I don't play big money (most I've ever put on a contest is $10). I do it because I'm writing on the topic for SBNation and my lineups have done very well. I post my picks on the site and on Twitter, people shade, hopefully make some money.

But I spend a good 2-3 hours researching each lineup, and THEN I have to have alternate picks ready in case those guys aren't put in lineups (which come out about 45 min before the matches), AND I then have to look at who else those players are playing with because that can raise/lower value. It's a massive time commitment, and unless I was dropping hundreds per contest, it's not going to make me money unless I sell my picks.

I was very interested to see how FantasyUp would do since I got in just a couple of weeks after their site went live last year. They offered the largest first time deposit bonus and rake free for the entire football and basketball season last year. I'm guessing their main goal obviously was just to build a customer base. It looks like it hasn't really worked as football is rake free yet again this season, and it looks like there's about as many, if not, even less guys playing it now compared to last season.

With FD and DK being so big and the marketing blitz they've put on recently, even with rake free games and 300% deposit bonuses, seems like it's just tough/impossible to really break through at this point for a new site.

that's the goal, crush the mkt so it's just the 2 of them as the authorities... cash in as much as they can then i would guess sell it off or IPO.

these companies have huge VC money behind them... even the smaller ones and they are hoping to just get a .01 % of the mkt to be attractive so a bigger one scoops them up.

but for the player, it's a positive to have those options. while, in general, any time someone offers to give you a 'free bonus' you should run fast in the other direction, the newness and competitiveness of that market does make some of the smaller companies do creative/stupid/aggressive things to attract customers.

Pimpin's company, i had an 80% win rate and won a few hundred bucks and a tv on a 40 dollar deposit i think. they are/were a complete train wreck and i was helping them out explaining to them their inefficiencies and the stuff they had screwed up, but wow it was bad. but it goes to show the VCs were just throwing money around hoping a few would stick then they make a ton of money. they don't really care that 49/50 they invest in fail if 1 makes it big

no rake and a bonus is certainly one of them

finished 24/115 in a League of Legends entry  .. this was the 2nd time these guys played each other so i took the most basic info, their last game results over their price, to get some ROI and did it based on that. and ya, finished 24/115. feels good.

I was talking to him a couple weeks ago about it, won't say what he told me but it seems he agreed w you on the problems there.

I put him in touch w a friend of mine who is co-owner of a DFS company called FantasyHub, their angle is a bit different--you play for money and prizes, but you're also donating to charity. They have items given to them by stars like Bo Sanders, Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb, and others. You pay money to win their prizes, a large portion of the money goes to the person's charity/foundation, and the rest goes to the company. They also have straight cash prizes, where you can choose one of numerous charities (including Jimmy V, SU2C, etc) to donate some of your winnings to. They just got into an accellerator program in Austin which apparently is huge. If you're looking for something a bit different I'd check them out. They do a fair amount of freerolls for cool prizes.

Got this email today... DK always late to the party...

As the three co-founders of DraftKings, we want to speak to you directly about what has been going on.

We know that you play DraftKings because it's fun and because it gives you a chance to showcase your skills against millions of other fans, and we know that you cannot do that without a level playing field.

The fairness and integrity of our contests has been at the heart of everything we have built since we started the company three and a half years ago.

Over the past week, questions have arisen around an employee of ours who won a significant prize on a competitor's site. While our internal investigation has reflected absolutely no wrongdoing on his part, this has still pushed us to reevaluate our processes.

Long before this happened, the wheels were in motion for an external review of our policies and procedures. Given the pace of our growth, we felt that an audit was critical to ensure the security of our platform, so we hired an external law firm experienced with these issues to conduct a full review.

But that is not enough. In addition to this audit, we have put in place a set of core measures that we believe are central to this process:

We expanded our existing policy prohibiting DraftKings employees from playing on our site to prohibit participation in any public daily fantasy sports contests for money.

We also will prohibit employees from any other Daily Fantasy Sports contest operator from participating in games on DraftKings.

We are actively reviewing our organizational structure and will add resources to ensure compliance with all recommendations stemming from internal and external findings.

We are working with multiple third parties to strengthen all internal policies and procedures.

The events of the past week have caused us to take a broader look and to ask those both here and externally to widen the scope of their analysis of our business.

We are aware that there is room for growth, regardless of the strength of our current platform. We will work tirelessly to improve all aspects of our customer experience, which is every bit as important to us as the effort we put into our product.

You will no doubt continue to hear from the media about both DraftKings and the industry. It is our prerogative to keep driving that conversation ourselves. We will work to respond to your concerns in complete transparency and to inform you of the steps we are taking to inspire your full trust.

Please know how grateful we are for the passion and loyalty you have shown DraftKings throughout our history and especially over the past week. You remain our greatest priority.

Thank you,

This isn't good...
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada regulators ordered daily fantasy sports sites like DraftKings and FanDuel to shut down Thursday, saying the hard-to-miss sites that have flooded the marketplace with TV and Internet ads cannot operate in the state without a gambling license.

Both sites still work. Is it just if you are in Las Vegas you cannot access them?

yes basically 21st century extortion between big biz (casino/fanduel) and gov't (paid by the casinos)

no different than Boardwalk Empire or Soprano's when you see the guys collecting. someone wasn't taken care of properly in Nevada and this type of stuff goes down.

pure speculation on my part but i'm quite certain the gov't isn't ruining every local companies new ad revenue streams from those sites for the benefit of the end user's financial safety and well being

It's the same thing that happened with online poker. If the government isn't making money from it, or the people in the government aren't making money off of not regulating it, then it gets regulated.
