4 down, 46 to go

Come one, come all. Talk about anything not league or video game football related here.

I am looking at it from the viewpoint of the Lord, as I expect Buckeye to as he contemplates what I posted.

Legal or not, moral or not--they are ALL frowned upon by the Lord. The Lord said that sin is sin, there is no hierarchy when it comes to falling short of the Glory. Gay marriage is a sin, just like pornography, just like taking His name in vain, just like lying, just like stealing, adultery, etc. Being "legal" doesn't make it any less of a sin. It's "legal" to curse out the Lord and say you don't believe in Him, and worship something else. But it doesn't make it any less of a sin.

That is my point--at what point do we draw the line when it comes to bending God's rules? I know the analogy was kind of weird, but it was the best I could come up with along the same lines (sexual wrongs).
I can agree that they're all the same from a religious standpoint, but I'm really confused how we can apply religion to social/legal/civil matters so freely when we're not dealing with people that are all of the same religion. If we were all Christian (or any single religion) then I'd see no problem with saying "This is right and this is wrong. It is in the book, look it up."

It seems to stand in direct conflict of logic and reason to apply religious arguments and viewpoints to legal matters.
Not to Christians. The Lord told His people to govern the world through His laws and His Word. The Lord is supposed to guide us in everything we do. This nation was founded by Christians, based on Christian beliefs. Marriage is not a social thing, it is a religious thing. Why should it not be governed as such?

all this religion talk is bullshit... u can be religous all u want but once u start trying to force it on me u can fuck right off
out of curiosity, in your eyes, what's an example of someone forcing their religion on you? is it a personal, one-on-one thing someone can do or is it a religion/politics thing?

But, by licensing the right to be married through the government, does that not make it a legal thing instead? Even a Christian couple married in a church needs to get a license sanctioned through their state in order to officially be recognized as married in a legal sense. Without the license they are married in God's eyes only, and they have zero legal rights afforded to married couples.

Marriage is in fact already governed as a legal/social thing.

Does the Christian objection to allowing marriage extend to people that are not Christian? Are Christians against two atheists being allowed to apply for and receive a marriage license?

We just spent 8 years being "led" by a certified retard. A man that couldn't formulate a full sentence for himself, likely the result of the fact that he couldn't finish a single thought in his head. He allowed the country to fall into the worst economic condition in decades and he falsely led this country into a military conflict over non-existent weapons of mass destruction based on military "intelligence" that was later found to have been intentionally manufactured for just that purpose. I really hope you don't prefer our last President who intentionally avoided his military enlistment obligations (what a pussy), abused illegal narcotics (what a pussy), and was a raging alcoholic before entering politics (what a pussy).
1. The worst economic times are still to come with all this bail out money being handed out, just my opinion.

2. You had to believe that Sadam had them at the time because he kept stone walling the UN envoy. Every time the UN had intel about where they were Sadam wouldnt let them in. So you had to believe the "intelligence."

3. I believe President Bush did serve, all be it the Air National Guard, and the current President never did (what a pussy), from ABC News.... In his 1996 memoir, "Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance," Obama wrote candidly about his drug use: "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though," (what a pussy huh).

You dont have to like President Bush but dont try to paint a bad picture when you dont know what you are talking about.
1) The man responsible for the majority of that money given out so far? Dubya.

2) Bush was given made-up intel and did not CARE if it was correct or not. Neither did Cheney--the man who REALLY got us into this war, trust me.

3) The current president was smart enough that he went to college and made something of himself, and worked hard. Dubya rode his daddy's coattails through life, got a C at Yale (and I'm guessing he had "help" with that one), and RAN AWAY from his commitment. No, Obama didn't join the service--but he also hasn't run away from things he's agreed to do.

As for the last line.....Republicans do that every day. They did it the entire time Obama was running for office. Should we dig up some Youtube videos where we were all told by many people about how Obama was a "muslim"?
Have you read how much Obama is giving out over the next 2 years? You are talking 2 TRILLION dollars, by far the most that any president has divvied out.

And I agree with you about Cheney. He's the reason we are still in Iraq. All the Generals were saying we need to go over with a large force, like we did in the 1st Gulf War, but he wanted to have a small force over there. Trust me, all us that has fought over there wish we had gone with a larger force because we wouldnt be there now.

Please stop. Trying to make sense of christians is impossible.

Christian's are usually elitists that think they run the world. They think they can strip the rights away from people. Hell, if you're against gay marriage you should be for slavery and segregation too. It is really no different. All of them are taking away the rights of certain people.

Do unto others how you'd like them to do unto you or whatever the fuck it is always seems to go by the wayside.

Might as well stop fighting the losing battle Packsy. Gay marriage will be legal eventually, just like slavery and segregation were overcome. We'll look back on the stupid people then, just like we do now.

I don't mean to offend anyone but god damn, some of you are out of your fucking minds.

Only two things offensive you are doing Matt is continuing to group everyone together who called themselves a Christian as being the same. Aside of course from the argument that taking rights away of people is a Christian agenda. You want to rights taken away and restricted? Go check out some of the nations were Christians are the minority. Lets visit pretty much anywhere in the middle east or far east and see what you think about it. The other offensive thing to compare slavery/segregation with gays getting married, these do not in anyway belong in the same conversation.
As you bringing up doing unto others as you would have them do unto you, I'm amazed you would think that could even work as you seem to think that doing whatever makes you feel good is the right thing to do. They both cannot be true. You cannot talk logic and sense if you cannot even realize what Gods word calls us to be and base you view of Christianity on others peoples mistakes. Countless horrors have been committed by people who had the mindset that there interpretation of the Bible and there judgments of others. There is no denying that. But all you have done is make the exact same mistake as those who would kill another in name of God. 1st Corinthians 13 sums is up better than I ever could. I do hope you have the integrity to read the New Testament for yourself than to base your opinion of who and what Christ is on what others would say and write.

While they may be different in ways, the fact is you think you have the power to take away the rights of a group of people WHO HAVE NO AFFECT ON YOUR LIFE. It is selfish and that is all. You don't have any right to do that and to think you do is ludicrous.

As for the bible, I don't mind believing in a fairy tell (I love Disney movies) but I can't let one run my life. If you're a christian, that is fine, but don't try and get me to be christian and DON'T try and do something you have no right to do because "god" said so.

Again, gay marriage DOES NOT affect your day-to-day life. So what do you care?

Their RIGHTS?

They don't HAVE THE RIGHT to "rights"; what they want is against the law of God. THE LORD GIVETH, AND THE LORD TAKETH AWAY!!!!

Marriage is between a MAN AND A WOMAN, IN THE SIGHT OF GOD. It's not for two guys to get insurance benefits, or to be able to file their taxes together, etc. That is all it comes down to, is the benefits they hope to gain by being "married".

As for it not having an impact on "my" life, does the murder of someone in another state impact my life? Probably not....so by your logic, that shouldn't be any of my business either.

It is nothing short of ignorance to think we can know how the choices we make affect others. It is amazing that you are stilling ranting about how something is being taken away from gays, how can it be taken away if they never had it? They are going after something they have never had, no one has taken anything from them. If anything they are trying change the very definition of the relationship that is the cornerstone of society. And seriously, you are going to call something a fairy tall that you prove you know nothing really about. This same logic must have lead you to never read a book or doing any research for anything in school as you learned all you needed from hearing what others have said who said they had taken those classes. Simply put you have used no logic whatsoever, only your opinions.

Just curious, can you explain? (I'm not trying to start anything here just curious because it made you sound a little ignorant and not what most Christians would want as the face of Christianity)

Also, I think this is a mute point if it is a "Civil Union" rather than Marriage. Most of the devout Christians that I talk to is okay with the Civil Union concept but completely against the Marriage of two people of the same sex.

I mean they have no basis to claim to get "equal rights" to marriage, when marriage is an INSTITUTION OF GOD! They don't have the right to ask for the same recognition in the eyes of the Lord when the Lord has strictly forbidden exactly what they want!

As FSUPengy said, they're not having anything taken away from them; this is like a man getting pissed at a baseball game's "Mother's Day giveaway" because he's not a woman, and the women are getting something he's not. Mother's Day is about the mother; marriage is about a MAN AND A WOMAN IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD.

It's perfectly fine to consider that in your opinion marriage is an institution of God, but that isn't what is being fought in the courts. For individuals with religious beliefs, that is indeed the definition of marriage.

However, by attempting to press this on others within a non-homogeneous society, you're attempting to force your religious views into a civil case. The fight for equal rights is not a religious fight it is a fight based on societal rights and legal protection of the citizens of a diverse nation. To deny legal rights to someone because what they want doesn't conform with your own religion is unconstitutional to say the least.

And when I say you or your I really mean the entire group that has that viewpoint, I'm not trying to attack you personally.

Why should they get legal rights to marriage? Marriage is "man and woman". That simple.

I mean, where does it end? What about two pals getting "married" so that one of them can get the other's health insurance? What about two relatives "getting married" for the same reason?

That's all this is really about; gays want to be able to share benefits. I'm not gonna support it, and I'm not gonna stand by and let them make a sacrilege of marriage.

Well, clearly there already are marriages of convenience that exist, so two pals getting married happens already, but it might just be a man and a woman that are friends.

All states prohibit a person from marrying his or her sibling, half-sibling, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, child, grandchild, great-grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece and nephew. Some states have additional prohibitions. This is done primarily for medical reasons. To think anything would change here is a bit of a stretch.

The bill of rights and the constitutional amendments are, for the most part, geared toward protecting the rights of the individual within society. I've heard many times that the right of an individual to swing their fist ends at the nose of the person in front of them. The laws of this country are about allowing individual rights up to the point where they directly infringe upon the rights of others. Allowing two gay people to receive legal recognition of their marriage has no direct infringement on any person outside of that union. Preventing them from being married is infringing upon their right to the pursuit of their own happiness in a situation that breaks no laws.

The "laws" of the Bible are fine for the individual that follows them, but they are not the laws of our nation. No man can stand up in court and say that what he did was right or wrong based on the Bible for we are not governed as a country by that book.
