Wiggins was likely and probably is likely the 3rd CB still put two freshman Labruzza and Shamburger were pushing him anyways. We haven't had any big time key injuries, just guys like most teams would have I'd imagine

5 more days and 1 more starter out for the opener ( Kirkland) and another who may not be ready till game 3 (Tuttle). Butch has bad injury luck.

With Shy's history there was never a chance he was coming back vs Tech and those cut blocks and the Florida game was always the target. Kirkland is a big one, no doubt. He is an all sec type and probably an NFL guy so losing him hurts and it sounds serious. Butch has definitely had bad luck with injuries.

What's wrong with Richmond? Saw he may be out too.

Richmond had an illness, not an injury. He will be good to go for the opener. Him at LT and Trey Smih at RG are the only guarantees I'd say. Looking likely Roberson plays C as well but we shall see.

They had Tressel and other coaches who have either coacvhed him or against him and they all talk about how this is how he has been since HS. Its not a façade.

Ah... about that time! Finally!

Before I do the usual preview, I'm going to look back at my hilariously bad prediction and even more awful result for my favorite team...
ReignOnU wrote:DATE … OPPONENT … PREDICTION
Sun, Sept 4 … @ Texas … WIN - - LOSS: 47-50 in OT on the road, that hurts. DL got owned.
Sat, Sept 10 … vs. Nevada … WIN - - WIN
Sat, Sept 17 … vs. Michigan St. … LOSS - - LOSS
Sat, Sept 24 … vs. Duke … WIN p LOSS: #RIP season
Sat, Oct 1 … vs Syracuse … WIN - WIN
Sat, Oct 8 … @ NC State … WIN - LOSS: Offensive Line starts to stink it up.
Sat, Oct 15 … vs. Stanford … LOSS - LOSS: 17-10, no moral victories at this point.
Sat, Oct 29 … vs. Miami … WIN - WIN
Sat, Nov 5 … vs Navy … WIN - LOSS: Navy always plays tough.
Sat, Nov 12 … vs Army … WIN - WIN
Sat, Nov 19 … vs Virginia Tech … WIN - LOSS
Sat, Nov 26 … @ USC … LOSS - LOSS

That's 9-3. I don't think they are going 9-3 though. I think they end up 10-2.
Yuck. 4-8. 6 of those losses by 7pts or less.

Brian Kelly coached his tail off last year. The team was destroyed by injuries throughout the season and he still managed a 10-2 record with 2 point losses at Clemson and at Stanford. The schedule this year looks easier on paper and it helps that Michigan State and Stanford are both at home. Add on that fact that both teams will be grooming new QBs this season.
No excuses for Kelly last season. He's had the talent, it wasn't ready last year. That's on the coach imo.

A quick rundown of the roster shows a lot of question marks though.
QB - Zaire or Kiser? The team went down this road last year and it resulted in Golson transferring. A year late, but Zaire is a Gator this season.
RB - Folston is back from injury, but Prosise gravytrained his time into a spot on the Seahawks roster.
WR - Top 3 WRs are gone. Torii Hunter Jr. and Corey Robinson (if he plays) hopefully maximize their fathers' genetics. :-) If not, ND decided to recruit basketball players to come in and play WR (4-5 young guys 6'3"+, most notably St. Brown) St. Brown looks the part, but can his production match his ability?
TE - Still looking for the next Rudolph, Eifert or even Koyack. No clear breakout last year, but high hopes upcoming.
OL - Lost Nick Martin and Ronny Stanley... but I'm less concerned here because the team has been recruiting OL like crazy the last few seasons. Lost 2 top OL,
I should have been concerned... very concerned.

DL - Lost 2 studs, including Sheldon Day, but like the OL, I think they'll be ok due to recent recruiting. See OL.
LB - Jaylon Smith is gone, as well as 1 of the OLBs. The group was thin last year and this year doesn't look any better.
DB - They are going to be very young and very fast... but definitely a liability early.

The offense is going to be a lot of fun to watch, but the defense is what will make or break the season for ND. There is going to be a ton of youth at LB/DB. Hopefully they come together quickly. I wouldn't be shocked if they lose/struggle at Texas in Week 1.
Defense got shelled in 4 of the first 5 games and the OL never really came together. Probably the worst coaching year I've seen from Kelly.

9/2 vs. Temple: WIN - Should be by double digits.
9/9 vs. Georgia: LOSS - The first test. Georgia is returning a lot of talent in Smart's 2nd year though.
9/16 @ Boston College: WIN - Shouldn't be in doubt.
9/23 @ Michigan State: WIN - Likely very close.
9/30 vs Miami, OH: WIN
10/7 @ North Carolina: LOSS - Sets the turning point of the season. A win here going into a bye is huge.
10/21 vs USC: LOSS - I feel like the UNC and USC outcomes will be the same. This 3 week stretch makes/breaks the season. I don't like it.
10/28 vs NC State: WIN - No monsoon this year, ND should handle them.
11/4 vs Wake Forest: WIN
11/11 @ Miami: WIN - :-)
11/18 vs Navy: WIN - I'll be sure to text Seeit to update him on the score this year.
11/25 @ Stanford: LOSS - On the road against a team in the hunt for the league championship.

8-4. It's not 4-8... and if it's anything worse than 8-4, I think Kelly is out. I could see MSU and Miami going the other way. If Kelly has the team at 3-4 after the USC game, it may be an early exit. I'm going to remain optimistic here (life of a Browns fan until Wk.1) and say that the team has an tiny shot at the playoffs. Because the schedule really only has 2 serious conference contenders, I think they would have to go 11-1 and knockoff either Stanford or USC. If they are 10-2 with those 2 losses, there's no chance.

Brandon Wimbush gets his crack at leading the offense. He was a highly touted recruit, with comparisons to Russell Wilson and Mike Vick (size/stature/ability to extend a play/make tight throws). Josh Adams is a big play RB. Claypool and St. Brown are huge WR targets and Alize Mack (formerly Jones) should get a chance to shine at TE. 2 members of the OL seemed to have improved this year, but they have a lot of work to do still. I don't see issues scoring this season, it's just a matter of if they can carry the team. Last year, they could put up the points, but the defensive deficiencies were too much to overcome.

On the defensive side, the biggest move was getting right of VanGorder last year. Nyles Morgan should generate similar hype to Jaylon Smith and Manti Te'o (hopefully without the imaginary friend). The DL looks improved, but the secondary is still inexperienced and underperforming. That's never a good thing. Big plays will be a problem.

Ready for another season!

Here's hoping that as a Browns and Irish fan, it can't be any worse than 1-15 and 4-8!

Hadn't seen her and the counterargument intrigued me... I see what you're saying here. It's the jawline. With that said, it's only worth a .5 point deduction. Still legit imo.
