How much does Marino want in extensions? He should be paid at least twice what the next highest contract is if we we're paying realistic contracts.

'19 has gone full 2018 MLB...we are still in the '80s MLB.
Comparing MLB to OOTP payroll doesn't make any sense when our budget is tied directly to revenue and theirs isn't.

Boston OOTP revenue last year = what? $160-200 mil?
Boston MLB revenue last year = $453 mil

Look at these numbers on how they make their money compared to our teams:

2015 numbers -

Dodgers:
Ticket sales: $130 mil
Cable deal: $152 mil

Yankees:
Ticket sales: $129 mil
Premium seating sales (luxury boxes and club seats): $130 mil

We can't compare our numbers with major league baseball when the game isn't set up to mimic these details appropriately.

From 2006 to 2018 the average price of a MLB game ticket has gone from $22 to $32 - essentially 50% inflation. How much will it rise between 2018 and 2055? Yet, how many of our teams are still charging under that $32 right now? Game is broken!

Flores - 3/20 mil extension
O'Keefe - 4/36

but that ALonso deal is fine. 26 yr old 5 WAR player who will only be 33 when done.

SF's logo on their hats are comically large.

I sometimes struggle with reasonable $/WAR rates... Wish I had the time to do an in depth $ vs WAR study.

Market clearly dictates pay - but I'm reluctant to pay at a rate close to that $6 mil/WAR rate in a contract like that unless you know you have multiple 2-3 WAR guys locked into entry level deals for a large portion of that contract's duration such that the $/WAR average from your starters comes back to a more normal average (I don't think we typically pay close to that rate overall).

I may not always follow it to the tee, but generally around $2-3mil per WAR per player is what I shoot for, knowing you'll probably go higher in free agency and can go cheaper extending your guys....at least in the pre-OOTP '19 days.
