Rule 2.00 (Infield Fly) Comment: On the infield fly rule the umpire is to rule whether the ball could ordinarily have been handled by an infieldernot by some arbitrary limitation such as the grass, or the base lines. The umpire must rule also that a ball is an infield fly, even if handled by an outfielder, if, in the umpires judgment, the ball could have been as easily handled by an infielder. The infield fly is in no sense to be considered an appeal play. The umpires judgment must govern, and the decision should be made immediately.

Golden tate thought the infield fly was in effect. Russell Wilson agreed.

Based on the timing, it tells you it wasn't "easily handled." The "immediately" portion can't even be questioned. It wasn't near immediately.

Come on, did you guys really think you were going to win?
The Braves are used to losing in the playoffs. This just makes it more fun.

An INFIELD FLY is a fair fly ball (not including a line drive nor an attempted bunt) which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort, when first and second, or first, second and third bases are occupied, before two are out. The pitcher, catcher and any outfielder who stations himself in the infield on the play shall be considered infielders for the purpose of this rule.
When it seems apparent that a batted ball will be an Infield Fly, the umpire shall immediately declare Infield Fly for the benefit of the runners. If the ball is near the baselines, the umpire shall declare Infield Fly, if Fair.
The ball is alive and runners may advance at the risk of the ball being caught, or retouch and advance after the ball is touched, the same as on any fly ball. If the hit becomes a foul ball, it is treated the same as any foul.
If a declared Infield Fly is allowed to fall untouched to the ground, and bounces foul before passing first or third base, it is a foul ball. If a declared Infield Fly falls untouched to the ground outside the baseline, and bounces fair before passing first or third base, it is an Infield Fly.

i think that's the important part, it doesn't have to be immediate from what I read, just immediate "when it seems aparent"
The only thing that can be questioned IMO, is the "ordinary effort", which is a judgment call that can't win in an appeal.
So let's finish this up Cards

Nick Swisher is god awful in the field, and the Jeter injury didn't look all that bad even though I know he's done. Tough break for the Yanks, but that's what you get when you rely on aging superstars (Rivera, ARod, Jeter).

Man I love seeing the Yankees lose but being a Sox fan I actually like Jeter, that sucks.

Jeter is from Kalamazoo, Michigan and briefly attended the University of Michigan so cant say I liked seeing him go down but what I did like was the Tigers' resilience last night. Fought back and got the win after that deflating 9th, New York is now in a fragile state, and last night had to be enough evidence for Leyland to not put Valverde back on the hill the rest of this series atleast. All positives for the Tigers.

Valverde is a headcase.
He never did all of the shit he does now early in his career with Houston and Arizona. He has some success and now he acts like an idiot.
No idea how a good manager like Leyland keeps going to the clown.

That "clown" has only blown 8 saves in 3 years since coming to Detroit. So that makes him 110/118 in the span, good for a cool 93%+ rate. And to further that point, in his two prime seasons in ARI (47 saves) and HOU (44 saves), he blew 7 each year. Do I want him as my closer? No. Is he a more than serviceable, if not top 5-10 closer? Yes.
