Guy at Florida high school that Nicolas Cruz killed 17 kids has been charged with negligence (child negligence, criminal negligence and other charges that carry 100 years in prison). I have a hard time with this one. As much as I know I'd charge that building in n his shoes, you honestly never truly know. I've talked with guys who were in no bullshit firefights with bullets banging off their trucks and over their heads and they knew 100% that "Joe" would be the first to fight but when it happen d he was cowered in the corner.

If he is convinced it sets a precedent that is hard to overcome. If someone is around a burning building, is everyone expected to run I'm there to save lives? This one is difficult for me

I see Dak as more of a hide in the corner type of guy.

Everyone? No

On duty firefighters...yes.

It's hard to accept cowardice as a criminal act though. This is a big step

Some guy walked into the mall a mile from here yesterday with a handgun in a Nike shoebox. Walked up to some guy (seems likely he knew the individual based on security video) and shot the guy in the neck. Ran out of the mall, hasn't been caught. I believe today they found the likely weapon/gun in the parking lot. The guy he shot, from 12 inches away, survived.

I don't dispute this at all.

But being a coward isn't crime. And you never truly know if you could go in that building until the time comes to actually go in that building, unfortunately.

Should Jessica Lynch (girl who got captured in 2003 invasion of Iraq) be thrown in jail because she laid on the ground and didn't fight back? By what I believe are your standards she should be.

if you have a job and part of your job is 'to serve and protect' and you purposely choose not to 'protect' then you are at the very least negligent. which i believe is what he was charged for

i have empathy, its a fucking horrible situation for everyone... including him.

Let's not assume he is guilty just yet.

Yes, he was charged with negligent. This one is bad for everyone involved.

While I get your point of view GG, I think this has to be handled straight-forward to avoid the slippery slope that you're referring to. There is a set guideline of action, he did not follow the guideline, therefore he is negligent in his role, which lead to the deaths of many kids. As an officer, this applies in any situation. The next issue will be if they can use this to pin civil cases on him.
