the only thing i can think of is they are starting him cause its vs Verlander and they dont wanna waste a better arm, or hes having a great playoffs cause his season numbers are average (4.15era, 1.35 WHIP, low strike outs)
who is the alternative? the guy hadnt lost in like his last 15 starts or something

If the giants win a world series and no one watches, does it really count?
The ratings are probably atrocious for viewing as they had 2 games on 2 big football nights.
Congrats plasma, impressive run the last couple years.

thanks corey, its been a great month of watching these guys play baseball.
i wanted one championship for my team in my lifetiime, well make that a double. bet them every game on the plus side every game and +160 for the series, so i made a nice roll of cash to buy some championship gear.

That's what I said about the sox and they spoiled me with 2 within 5 years.
Glad they did because they may never win one again for another 86 years.

jays and marlins are completing a huge deal
reyes/josh johnson/buehrle coming to toronto
Blue Jays Close To Acquiring Josh Johnson
By Zach Links [November 13 at 5:31pm CST]
5:31pm: One source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter link) that Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, John Buck, and Emilio Bonifacio are all going to Toronto. Right-hander Henderson Alvarez and left-hander Justin Nicolino will be among those going to Miami, Rosenthal tweets.
5:15pm: The Blue Jays are on the verge of acquiring Josh Johnson from the Marlins, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Toronto will also land Mark Buehrle in the trade, sources tell Ken Rosenthal (Twitter link) and Morosi. The Marlins will receive Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria in return, Rosenthal tweets.
One source tells Morosi that Jose Reyes may also be headed to Toronto in the trade (Twitter link). That part of the deal is not yet confirmed but there will be more pieces outside of Johnson, Buehrle, Escobar, and Hechavarria in the swap, Rosenthal tweets.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Blue Jays are close to acquiring Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle from the Marlins in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria and Justin Nicolino
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com hears that Jose Reyes "could" be part of the megadeal between the Marlins and Blue Jays.
the Marlins had a payroll of like 120+ million before last season... if this goes down, they'll have less than 35 on payroll
Jeffrey Loria is a criminal, i mean that literally. he got the stadium built and convinced everyone it was so they could compete with payrolls and now he does this. unless he has plans to sign some monsters, this is bad for Marlins fans.

the deal looks like
Reyes, Buerhle, Johnson, Buck, Bonfacio
for
Escobar, Hech, Nicolino, Alvarez and Marisnick
this deal would catapult Toronto (imo, barring injuries) into a contender in the AL East
Josh Johnson
Brandon Morrow
Mark B
Ricky Romero
??

basically the Marlins and Blue Jays just formed 1 team.
they should just contract the Marlins the University of Miami should take the stadium for football.
contrary to popular belief, people do care about baseball down here... there are going to be some riots.

the thing is.. these guys the Marlins got are not household names.. yet
but Nicolino is a studddd SP, Alvarez is hit or miss, Escobar is now in a much greater latin community (after that "faggot" fiasco), and Marsinick is an OF who can be good but OF's are dime/dozen.
Im sure the Jays ripped them off, this deal comes down to JJ staying healthy though.

5:58pm: The Marlins will get Marisnick or Anthony Gose, as well as a catcher in either J.P. Arencibia, Bobby Wilson or Jeff Mathis, Morosi tweets.

i have to believe they could have gotten most of that for Reyes alone and i'm familiar with those guys they got in return, the pitcher is a stud for sure.
i'm not against the Marlins dumping all the payroll and starting over and younger... but you need to get maximum return value in prospects. a 'stud' prospect is a dime a dozen. plenty of can't miss prospects end up sucking, trust me i'm a Mets fan, i've seen a million of em.
the part thats bad is the Marlins convinced the fans they were 'going for it'. they built the stadium on taxpayer money and even scammed how they got that approved. now they go back to the low payroll rebuilding team and fans got stuck with the bill while Loria collects the MLB revenue sharing plus the gate (rather than splitting that with Dolphin stadium).
you can win in baseball without stud players, thats not the issue. they might even be better next year. but how they did it sucks.

after this deal you seriously dont think Toronto is? Baltimore, with the luckiest season ever made it last year for fuck sakes. What did Boston do? Add our old manager. good luck with that. Dudes a pitching coach and had the absolute worst in game decisions for pitching.
Toronto's starting 5
Josh Johnson
Ricky Romero
Brandon Morrow
Mark Buehrle
Any human being on the planet
(did this for l-r purposes)
and only the Rays have a better rotation in the East. Pitching wins.
add Jose Reyes to our lineup.
p.s - *crosses dallas off the trading friends list*

Josh Johnson-coming to a harder league to pitch in and sucked last year
Romero- the same guy with an ERA of almost 6 last year?
Morrow-not bad if he stays healthy
Buerhle-ok as well, no world beater
Any human being on the planet-better be Steven Hays
So no, I do not think they will be a contender with that unproven rotation and their weak lineup.
Didnt say the Sox would be any better either but the Yankees still hold the top, the Orioles made a jump and I see them coming down but still above the Blue Jays and the Rays are on top of the Jays in my opinion.
If by compete you mean to compete with the Sox for 4th place, then I agree.
