Week 13 College Football
Re: Week 13 College Football
BCS Championship- LSU vs Alabama
Rose- Oregon vs Michigan State/Wisconsin
Fiesta- Oklahoma/Oklahoma State vs Stanford
Sugar- Michigan vs Houston
Orange- Clemson/Virginia Tech vs Big East Champion
Sugar loses it's team so they get to pick first among at large
At large candidates:
Stanford
Houston (most likely)
Michigan/Oklahoma State/Virginia Tech
Sugar gets to pick first for losing the SEC champion... probably picks Michigan? Fiesta will take Stanford then, and Sugar will be left with Houston.
Virginia Tech/Oklahoma State is also a possibility if they lose over Michigan but Michigan probably travels better and isn't coming off a loss.

All these scenarios that are attributed to making the BCS so bad, they could still play out in a playoff.trendon wrote:It is an unparalleled level of retarded and there is no argument to be had and makes me - one of the few non-playoff holdouts - throw my hands up.
Just make 1 loss LSU ranked #7, and 2 loss Bama ranked 8th. Bama is in the clubhouse, assured of a playoff. LSU beat Bama, but has to play the SECCG, is in a worse spot than Bama, despite being ranked higher and winning that division.
No difference.

AP rankings are out.
If the Coaches and Harris are any bit like it, the Championship is basically decided as of now.
Bama got all 60 2nd place votes.

Re: Week 13 College Football
Lsu rigs the bcs and when they play well for a championship.
The last 3 chances at titles have come when the title game is in the super dome.
They are 2-0, about to be 3-0.
Very impressive.

There is no playoff situation that gives the team with more losses and more losses to one opponent the easier path to the title game than the aforementioned opponent.shel311 wrote:All these scenarios that are attributed to making the BCS so bad, they could still play out in a playoff.trendon wrote:It is an unparalleled level of retarded and there is no argument to be had and makes me - one of the few non-playoff holdouts - throw my hands up.

Re: Week 13 College Football
I initially ignored your example because your example is terrible for three reasons. Stop being a shill because you are getting dangerously close to that territory.shel311 wrote:trendon wrote:There is no playoff situation that gives the team with more losses and more losses to one opponent the easier path to the title game than the aforementioned opponent.shel311 wrote:All these scenarios that are attributed to making the BCS so bad, they could still play out in a playoff.trendon wrote:It is an unparalleled level of retarded and there is no argument to be had and makes me - one of the few non-playoff holdouts - throw my hands up.

1. Nobody is going to lose sleep over the plight of the seventh, eighth, and ninth teams no matter what the name of their school is.
2. When you are talking about a playoff, it isn't that big of a deal if one team has an easier path. It would still be insane, but considering the future that lies ahead - multiple games to determine a title - it is a small issue.
3. We argue that a playoff ruins the regular season. Assuming that is true, a situation like yours is expected. It is the one thing that anti-playoff proponents have as a valid complaint. We know that about a playoff so the #8 team having a less difficult route over the #7 team they lost to is expected. However, in this "regular season means everything" setup we have now, we have the #2 team (not the #8) with one single loss to the #1 team (not the #7) team not only going to the title game but doing so in a less difficult way than the #1 team. It is so beyond retarded that I cannot believe you aren't just grinning and shutting up, knowing your favorite conference is getting away with one.
Re: Week 13 College Football
well of course Bama is gonna get all 2nd picks
11-1 > 10-1
But I bet more people vote Oklahoma State #2 if they beat Oklahoma.

Re: Week 13 College Football
I hope. I think Louisiana State would obliterate the Cowboys, but I'd like to see it happen. By the way, georgia is crazy. Half of their skill positions are sophomores and freshmen.nick wrote:well of course Bama is gonna get all 2nd picks

Re: Week 13 College Football
And, also, if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma and is still left out, they can thank - guess who - the University of Fucking Texas for screwing them. If Texas and Beebe don't piss off everyone and force Nebraska and Colorado to find better hands to play with, they still have a title game. Then, Oklahoma State would have a nice game vs. Nebraska or Kansas State, giving them an extra shot in the arm in the rankings over cheap-ass Alabama.
Texas fucks it up for everyone else yet again.

Re: Week 13 College Football
Hilarious that Trendon just jumped on the playoff bandwagon and calls me a shill.
Classic lol.
Last year, you're right there with me on a no playoff, and now I'm a shill. Bizarre.
And the notion that no one cares about 7th, 8th, or 9th teams, wtf? They're not important enough to care about who gets ranked where, and you still want those teams you don't care about to play for a title. That's absurd lol.

Re: Week 13 College Football
A shill, plant or stooge is a person who helps a person or organization without disclosing that he or she has a close relationship with that person or organization. What close personal relationship do I have with the Bowl Championship Series, Southeastern Conference, University of Alabama, Louisiana State University, Oklahoma State University, Virginia Polytechnical Institute, or Stanford University? None. You need to check your dictionary because the word you could be using for me is hardly shill. There are a few others that describe people that flip allegiances or beliefs; shill ain't one of them. However, in the aforementioned list, I do see a pair of allegiances that you may have and, as evidence has shown, the current system favors those two things quite favorably. As such, believing that your close relationship with the Southeastern Conference and Louisiana State could be construed as you being a potential shill is not "classic" but entirely possible.shel311 wrote:Hilarious that Trendon just jumped on the playoff bandwagon and calls me a shill.

As for the topic, I have been anti-playoff (excepting a Plus-one) for as long as I could remember. However, it is absolutely quite clear that the BCS is incapable of getting it right, with this season being the most asinine of the bunch.
And, again, your reading comprehension needs work. I said people wouldn't lose sleep over the "plight" of the seventh, eighth, and ninth teams and especially so when one of them has two losses. They'll still be articles, forum posts, and post-game shows dedicated to how the rankings fucked up and it should be #9 Arizona State (or whoever) in the eighth spot because they are 11-1 and only lost to, say, Oregon State at home. But, with the rest of the playoff being set and the (presumably) top four teams all being in and deserving, the 7/8/9 battle will hardly be a big "HOLY SHIT!" concern.
I mean, let's look at the likely BCS standings as of today
1. Louisiana State
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma State
4. Virginia Tech
5. Stanford
6. Houston
7. Boise State
8. Arkansas
9. Oregon
Yeah, Oregon has a serious goddamn complaint but would anybody really be overwhelmingly concerned? Yeah, maybe YOU would be if it were Louisiana State down there instead of Oregon and your team just massacred the Hogs but unless it was for #1 or #2, I can't say that I - and I'll assume anyone else - will shed a tear. So, as such, your skill-like example was a bit over-the-top.

I NEVER called you a shill, you called me a shill. Go back and reread sucka. I know what it means, hence, why I didn't call you the name. My point is you were so anti-playoff, and now all of a sudden, you're acting like the only way to be anti-playoff is to be a shill. That's silly coming from a flip flopper like yourself.
What is even going on here?
See you back on Team-No Playoff next year, Flip Flopper!!!

I am calling you a shill because I have to wonder if this was a Pac-12 v. Big Ten potential matchup (and the SEC hasn't been favored or involved in the BCS for a few years now) if you would be so fervent a supporter of the BCS. I don't think so. Feel free to counter.shel311 wrote:WTF?trendon wrote:A shill, plant or stooge is a person who helps a person or organization without disclosing that he or she has a close relationship with that person or organization. I switched because this bullshit with Alabama getting a virtual free pass to the title nullifies the one thing I held dear: the regular season don't mean shit. Now I have to root for Louisiana State to massacre Alabama, which probably won't happen. The game will make a trillion dollars and nothing will change even though, yet again, plus-one solves all.

I like to think any argument I've ever been on on this board, I come from an unbiased standpoint. Have I ever REALLY been so biased towards my teams or the SEC when i'm being serious in my opinions on that team or the conference?
Re: Week 13 College Football
I don't know. The SEC has been such a staple of the BCS title game that I can't remember a time you would have ever had a chance to debate over the BCS game without an SEC team involved.shel311 wrote:Of course.trendon wrote:I am calling you a shill because I have to wonder if this was a Pac-12 v. Well, if it helps, the year Auburn went undefeated with OU and USC, I thought they deserved their #3 ranking lol.
