48.5% had 3 other illnesses at the time of death
25.6% had 2 other illnesses
25.1% had 1 other illness
Which is about doubled in the US with our obesity and other comorbidities being one of the unhealthiest nations in the world.
Not compared to Italy, they're probably as bad or worse than us.
Italy has been on the brink for awhile. Failing economy, highly corrupt government and inadequate healthcare. Only the smallest and worst pockets of the US are close to comparable.

Yea thats just not true. The countries being the most impacted by these are some of the most healthy countries in the world according to the WHO and UN.
Bloomberg has crunched numbers from the UN, World Bank and World Health Organization, scoring 169 nations on a range of factors from life expectancy to obesity, tobacco use, air quality and access to clean water.
Dont see the US in the top 20...

Italy is known for its generally very good health system, considering the fact that it has the world's 6th highest life expectancy in 2015 (according to World Health Organization[1]), low infant mortality, relatively healthy cuisine and diet, and healthcare system that is ranked 2nd according to World Health Organization[2] and which has the third best medical performance worldwide.[3] As with any developed country, Italy has adequate and sufficient water and food distribution, and levels of nutrition and sanitation are high.

Bloomberg has crunched numbers from the UN, World Bank and World Health Organization, scoring 169 nations on a range of factors from life expectancy to obesity, tobacco use, air quality and access to clean water.

Your argument against their healthcare system starts with a data set from Bloomberg on how healthy Italians are. The study uses health risk factors, obesity, access to water, etc to determine rankings. That's not the same thing.

The 2nd citation is based on generalized heatlhcare and has numerous other factors influencing it.

Without making this into a massive debate, I'll give a few small data points and move on.
#1 - The economic impacts in Italy have created a larger burden on citizens due to their higher than normal taxation to support the SSN (their socialized medical branch). Due to not being able to increase, there has been a lack of funds for development since early 2000s.
#2 - As of 2010 (last major update I recall seeing) WHO has rated Italy the 2nd best healthcare setup for universal healthcare. However, the funding disparity has left the system mostly stagnant, while others like Germany have pulled ahead.
#3 - Italy has had strong standard care for a long time, but also runs very high ~80% capacity.
#4 - Italy is among the lowest as it relates to immediate ICU availability, lagging almost every other EU country.
#5 - Italy's capacity to adapt is limited due to both population density and space limitations.

Pretty much all of this information is readily available. I've spent quite a bit of time (as I'm sure others have) reading up on this stuff and a big part of what I've looked at it is what is happening in Italy.

Maybe it's arrogance, elitism or blind faith, but regardless of the ratings I see for the United States in some of these areas, I feel pretty confident that we're not Italy.

I am utilizing healthcare renowned, worldwide health organizations that recognizes Italy as one of the healthiest countries in the world with one of the better infrastructures.

I was tongue in cheek in saying we are as screwed as Italy as the US is known as the "fat country" which is why I put the emoji.

Saying Italy has "inadequate healthcare" is just wrong.

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person or a group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment, often evoking in them cognitive dissonance and other changes such as low self-esteem.

Using denial, misdirection, contradiction, and misinformation, gaslighting involves attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim's beliefs. Instances may range from the denial by an abuser that previous abusive incidents ever occurred to the staging of bizarre events by the abuser with the intention of disorienting the victim.

I was talking with some co-workers on a webex and it is downright amazing the people that defend Trump for lashing out at the reporter.
I said to them, I get it if it was a dumb question, but all the reporter did was say there are x amount of cases and x amount of deaths, what do you have to say to the public that are scared?

And boom, he goes off about how terrible of a reporter the guy is.
No way in hell I could be a reporter, cause no way I am keeping my mouth shut if someone was an asshole to me like that.

Trump had the perfect opportunity to tell people to remain calm and for the love of god, stop running out and buying 100 rolls of tp, but instead, he looked like an ass per usual.
Yet, so many people make excuses for him.

I mean, this lady I work with was like, yeah, they are working around the clock right now and he is tired and when people ask the same stupid questions....
I was like, what stupid question? All the guy did was give a statistic and bam!

Most of my statement was broad/sweeping, with a few points at the majority here. Sorry if that come out some other way. But the idea that we will be Italy is something that's been fear-mongered quite a bit by others.

In terms of general ability, as of 2010, they were strong. I gave you numerous things that have happened since then and then some supporting details that differentiate between general ability to care and advanced care (including potential to expand). You can choose to believe, follow up or whatever, but if/when you do, you'll find that it all applies and is a big factor contributing to their problem. (along with avg age, societal interaction, density, and potentially the real timeline for 1st arrival)

Every time he rants at reporters I just roll my eyes. It's a waste of time and not the place. I don't see a need to even have them there. But of course, it's an opportunity for him to grandstand. I'd prefer to have Birx/Fauci leading the way... or even Pence. Right now, Pence looks like a trained puppy that walks up, does his 3 tricks (follow the President's 15 day guide, blah) and sits back down. I don't mind Trump saying that he feels good about possibility of hydroxychloroquine working. It's a positive message, as long as it's framed right. Just say your happy stuff and get out of the way.
