Let's give the AD and coach multi-million dollar raises, and hey Johnny Football, you can make the same thing you made your freshman year, enjoy your nutritionist and tutor, that should cover you for the $37mil.
the kids signed the letter of intent. they know how it works going in.
HOw'd I know you would be the first to make that argument? LOL.
People who work in sweatshops know what they're getting into as well...
And don't go crazy thinking I'm making a direct comparison of the 2, the larger point is, them knowing what they're getting into is irrelevant to whether it's right or wrong.
If you have aspirations to play in the NFL, there is no other alternative. When you have no other alternative, that's when it's easiest for someone like the NCAA to hoard billions of dollars and disperse to everyone but you, because what else are you going to do? Nothing, that's what.
i wish i had a tutor n nutritionist and a FREE education. while im paying loans back until 2020....dude is gonna make more $ in one year than i could in 10 lifetimes. suck eggs.....

If you made $37mil for A&M last year, you'd wish you had a hell of a lot more than that.

It's easy to say what you would do and want until you're in that situation.
I think the actual correct answer is none of us actually know what we would want or if what we say we would want now would change if we were in that situation.

we'd make a fucking killing.
the problem we'll run into is they have to wait 3 years
Let's do it!!
And FWIW, maybe not because of the paying kids issue, that is going to happen one day. It may be years and years from now, but a big time conference or something will start a movement and eventually break away from the NCAA if the NCAA keeps up with the status quo, and there's no reason to think they won't.
im serious. this could happen. lets do a training academy type deal. they pay a % of the 1st contract. they come and train with pro strength and conditioning guys, run them through drills etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
we've also got corporate sponsors that give them actual work throughout the 3 years so they learn the value of a dollar and what its like to put in some hard work.
they dont need all that other jibber jabber. we'll be a pro sports trade school if you will

what about a kid like me who got a scholarship, sucked at baseball, partied, stole an education and bounced a yr early after milking them for free food, free rooms, free trips, free tutors, free nutrionists, etc.
they should make me pay the money back

I didn't say the women's field hockey team should be getting paid to play college sports.

another thing... Texas A&M provides a pretty large platform to Johnny Football. putting him in front of millions of people every saturday playing in a huge conference, giving him the stage to create a persona like he has.
Johnny absolutely can decide it doesn't make sense for him to continue playing in college and drop out and train and sell Johnny Football gear if he feels slighted. but he got to that point with a combination of the marketing of the university's football program, its huge following that he had nothing to do with until last year that they've spelt hundreds of millions of dollars (if not billions) to create and also his exceptional play on the field.

1. Why do they do that "for" Johnny Football? Because he makes them millions of dollars. Let's not act like they're doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.
2. If he suffers some sort of injury that ruins his career, how much of that will matter, how much will be able to make off of that persona?

If he wants to play football professionally in the future at the highest level, this is unrealistic.

they do it because they field a football team that generates a shit load of money.
if i go work for a bigger firm that has namebrand recognition that will garner me more notoriety, there is a value that comes with that. even if i come in being the greatest thing that firm had ever seen, i'm still benefitting from their platform.

He will be able to make a living off of his persona forever. Johnny Rodgers has been living off his in Nebraska for 50 years now.

And if you outperform everyone in that bigger firm and produce and make more money for that firm than others that do the same type of job in that firm, what happens?
Not another year of a tutor and nutritionist.
