From what I've always heard, yes, they demand a lot of attention and pretty sure it entails more than throwing the ball. I've got a chocolate lab, just turned 5. Haven't cleaned up the first mess from this dog and I've had him since he was 6 weeks old. Labs just know. He stays home alone for about 15 hours a day on my work days and never a problem.
