Jeter has had 9 100 K years at the plate to Ichrio ZERO ( His high strike out year is 86) He does Walk more so if you base it off that sure, but Ichrio has 10 straight 200 seasons so he aint looking for walks ( Jeter has had only 8 total 200 hit seasons despite playing longer)

Ichrio has better speed, better bat avg, and better bat discipline. Not even close in my book.
as a disclaimer, i'm a Mets fan, don't really like or dislike Jeter

Ichiro swings at everything and makes a lot of contact, which is why he doesn't walk alot or strike out alot, which is why i say he doesn't have as good of plate discipline. For a guy that gets 200+ hits every year and hits around .325, his career obp is 'only' .373.

Jeter has a higher career OBP and OPS... not sure how you can say its not close.

if you want look old school type stuff like hits and avg and speed (which i have no idea how that makes him a better hitter), its not as if Jeter is slacking there, he averages 206 hits per season over 17 seasons, is a career .312 hitter and has 4 30 stolen base seasons of his own.

baseball isn't a tough sport to analyze given both bodies have a big enough sample... the numbers say they are pretty similar.

'not even close' seems like a stretch.

I think rings can be used in an argument when adding it into an equation of an argument. Now you can't use only rings but you use numbers then add to the fact that someone has such and such rings to go on top of what they have accomplished then I don;t see why someone wouldn't bring that into the equation.

Math is off a bit the Riccio
I took a 15 year avg, taking out this season and 1995 ( only 48 at bats) and came up with 194 a season

He strikes out less, hits more, has better speed on base path ( Steals and Triples are higher despite fewer seasons). I guess we are arguing two sides of the same coin. I perfer fewer strike outs and more hits. OBS Percentage and walks for you I guess.
Despite having a higher OBP, Jeter only scores 107 runs a season to Ichiro's 98 ( Minus Jeter's 95 season which lowers his avg and Ichiro having a much shitter team

I just took whatever it said on baseball reference.

Regardless, i'm not saying you're wrong if you think ichiro is a better hitter, with a gun to my head if asked before I saw numbers I would have said ichiro also.

After looking at the numbers and seeing that Ichiro has a lower ops (forget about obs, thats not as important when comparing overall hitting) I just cant agree that 'its not even close'

Then again you're just like a jv coach or some shit, right

Their OPS+ is almost identical over their average 162 game sample size.

Remember, Jeter plays in a very hitter friendly park for slugging compared to Seattle (OPS+ is ballpark adjusted).
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor/_/year/2010

I'd also throw behind Ichiro the fact that he's been on some offensively punch-less teams for much of his career. Jeter has a lot more protection in the Bronx.

holmey, were you proving a point that the amount of rings should not be used in the discussion?
If so, I am in complete agreement...

As shel pointed out, no way, imo, that list holds any value....Jim Loscutoff>>>Michael Jordan

I was rooting for Dallas, but that pic is my background on my work computer...I think it is pretty awesome.

Did you hear that LeBron James is attempting to pen his autobiography but he's been stuck on the title?
