The ball will have some effect here, it's J-burg, higher elevation. I saw one at Dick's Sporting Goods, it has these weird ass little bumps on it, like dashes in morse code.

That was a bit of a dive, but a nice buildup there from South Africa.

I can understand that. It definitely lacks the passion of something like a college basketball rivalry game.

Fuck the buzzing! It is like a million fucking go-karts going around a track. Can't they ban this shit? It destroys the atmosphere.

WOW... there is now way he could be offside.

Will the assistant referee now come out after the match and say he was wrong, Jim Joyce style?

Apparently the announcer doesn't know the rules.....

The player was behind the keeper when the ball was played to him--therefore only ONE defender was between ball and goal.

Kinda sad the announcers don't even know the rule.

Offside Law: A player is in an offside position if he is in his opponents' half of the field and is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the next to last opponent.

The goalie is always assumed to be the last opponent, thus the last defender is the "next to last" opponent. With the goalie out, there was only one defender between ball and goal line. It was the right call. Very close, but it was right.

Well thanks Jason I never knew that rule, cause like I said it was clear as day he was onside with the guy on the goaline. My bad.

I had to double check the wording but a friend of mine taught me that key part a few years ago. It's not often you see someone get behind the goalie like that, so you rarely see it called.

If you look at the replay, he was even with the goalkeeper, who was coming out but still in front of the last defender. Therefore, he was not offside.

Not when it was touched though. When it was played to him he was just barely off. Ballsy call by the assistant

It was very close....McManaman even said "yes", after hesitation, but added it was quite close. When they froze the footage from the side right after it happened, it looked like his arm was behind the keeper, I would like to see that replay angle again. It could've gone either way, at first glance it looked the right call but again, I'd need to see that exact replay to be sure.

No doubt he was offside after finally getting a look at the true side view. I was wrong. However, that is one hell of a call for the AR to make in that situation.

Way to come through, kudos!

Yeah, it was definitely a ballsy call to make; but he has earned himself a VERY good chance of working later matches in this tournament by getting it right. They take the top guys and bring them in for the knockout rounds.

Mexico about to bring on Guardado, should lead to a better buildup in the final third. Hernandez needs to come on and put one home, I have him on my fantasy team
