Western Michigan would be ranked about 20 if that was the case.

if we voted after week 5 and he was 5-0 with a win over #1 LSU, i'd guess he'd be much closer to 10.
I believe either way he would be around the same rank... I sat here trying to figure out where i would be if we started poll at preseason or after week 5/6 and i couldnt find much difference... the biggest difference especially this week would be making ur poll too early... I believe I submitted mine after shel's loss... but missed Boise... Michigan... Penn St...Florida... UConn... West Virginia...UCLA.. losses which for me would of dropped Boise(#2) outta top 5... Michigan(#10) back to the 20's... penn state (#7) back in the 10's... Florida (#18) borderline 25... UConn (#11) 20's... West Virginia (#25) out.... UCLA (#20) out... This is based on me using the actually standings through w/e weeks are open (this week weeks 5&6 open).... rather than just using the teams record to weeks 3/4.... stop me if im wrong but I dont see the point in....FOR AN EXAMPLE: Western Kentucky being 4-0 through weeks 3/4 with weeks 5/6 open and playing with 2 losses... Now up to date record is 4-2... no way am I going to give him votes of a 4-0 record when up to date he is 4-2... AFTER THIS WEEK I AM WAITING UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT TO SUBMIT MY POLL

John, while I do agree with u in theory, we are technically supposed to only factor up to week 4.

LOL.... I kinda was figuring that as I typed weeks 5 and 6 in poll results for weeks 3 and 4... has there been any talk about this before? bc I have been voting this way everytime since my first poll submitted beginning of season 21??

I really don't see it is that big of a deal.

I get why we do it, to try to stay consistent. But it's easy sometimes to just look at overall standings and rank em from there.

Either way, it all works out in the end.

Ya i guess... also bc of peoples schedules and laziness some games are played right away other are playd weeks after they opened... for example LSU-WMU was week 1 that would have dropped Shel from #1 back in the first weeks poll if it were playd then... I guess like u said Shel its not that big of a deal, unless some1 else says otherwise... i just feel in the end for me... the final poll is more where it should be if done the way I submit it.... sorry if that all was confusing I KNOW WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY... LOL

Which makes me wonder who is it that isn't paying attention to the results of games when they vote? I love that a loss to an unranked opponent still warrants a first place vote...Pay attention people!
I already admitted, in a different thread, that I submitted my vote the day the polls opened and it was probably about 20 minutes or so after I submitted them that I saw that LSU lost!
The one time I wish the voting didn't take and would allow me to re-do it. :D

Nole4real wrote:oh shit, #2 ?!!!! no clue i'd jump that fuckin high with all the upsets
goddamn you niddlerrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am trying to claw my way back to the top too!
Week 1 - Beat #19 T A&M
Week 2 - Beat #3 USC
Week 3 - Lost to unranked Arizona
Week4 - Bye
Week 5 - Beat #6 Boise State

Remaining for me:
Week 6 - Michigan State
Week 7 - #15 Nebraska
Week 8 - Illinois
Week 9 - Bye
Week 10 - #4 Wisconsin
Week 11 - Indiana
Week 12 - Purdue
Week 13 - #7 Penn State
Week 14 - #10 Michigan

If my remaining opponents stay ranked, that will be 7 of my 12 games against #19 or better.

It is going to be a loooong season!
NONE of my remaining games are a given. Want to say it now, good luck to everyone.
Should be really fun to see how all of this pans out by season's end.

juust my 2 cents on the subject because as some of you know I love playing this game and want to play it 24/7. But my job and somewhat of a social likfe prevent that, but anyways I think maybe the commish or a senior member should maybe put out a NDL memo clarifying the leagues position on voting and when to vote and how to voye a little better. Now I dont want to say its not clear because the voting part is but as a new guy this being my second season I do think that I may aproach the whole voting thing different than some of you, and I think by the end of this thread its pretty easy to see that not all of use agree on whats fair in voting.

Personally I think its fair to use all games played in voting. meaning like John said if a guy plays his games early then they should count, just as if a guy doesnt play his games they count against him. Thats the only fair way to do it, otherwise, you have incidents like shels, or even me. I mean technically by this vote ucla was 3-0, but because im a freak and hound my opponents for games im really 3-2 (losing to 2 ranked teams btw!). But I think the only faair way is to consider all games played by when you vote otherwise we should change up the voting because the schedule doesnt really work with our current voting system.

Just my 2 cents, no throwing stones!

After reading over my last post I did remember that each new block opens up on Friday morning while the last weeks voting period is opening 2 days later on Sunday... with most owners being free on the weekends that 2 day period to get the new blocks games in is what has brought Mac and I to bring this up.

We are all grown men, you get an email saying the polls are open, you get a thread on the boards stating the polls are open. The aid is updated to which weeks we are voting on.

Thats pretty damn fair if you ask me. Its worked for 22 seasons, I dont see reinventing the wheel on this subject.

No I agree I was just saying that if there is alot of confusion that maybe it could be tweaked, but the system does work

I vote Monday and use aid. I look at recaps everytime I am on to stay updated on games played up to that week. I do not count games already played that weekend for following weeks.

Thanks Buckeye, thats what I was looking for... didnt realize it was just for those weeks until this topic started, assumed the voting aid was just that an aid, and wouldnt use it and just go into the standings but with that answer I now know to use the aid and also take the time to look at some teams in standings to see what opponents some teams played that I am up in the air about.

LOL, your 3 sentence post cleared up everything for me... didnt realize how useful the voting aid actually is... and like I said just need to use the standings page to check individual teams for the weeks to see if some1 had an upset good or bad, or their win/ loss was to a ranked opponent and how much was their margin of victory or defeat.

ONCE AGAIN I would like to state how impressive to me your post was in clearing that up.

I generally don't care, but really people? I lose 2 games and drop to like 19th, then I win a game against a ranked team and drop out of the polls in the following week  . I'm done, thanks for listening.

A log jam of teams with 1-3 losses will make the final polls really fun. Crazy season so far.

Voting is hard this year. usually there's still like 12 teams undefeated who are like 3-0 or 4-0 which makes voting super easy.
