Wow.....

Third round, the 17th hole had 13 mph wind. I muscled up and went up a club, and the wind still put me downhill from the hole on the left, about 35 feet away. I ended up four-putting and double bogeyed to go from -6 to -4. Was frustrated as hell. Almost just said "fuck it" and swung away on the 18th just to end the round.

Calmed myself down, took my time w my second shot, analyzed the green and tried to land it about 5 feet short and to the right. Apparently I misjudged how much the wind was going to affect my shot, though.....because the ball bounced once further left than I meant it to, hit the pin, and dropped for an eagle :D

Guess the golfing gods felt bad for me  especially since I left 5 birdie putts within a foot. I haven't hit a hole in one yet, but between that and the double eagle at PGA National, I feel like I have. So giddy

One thing I wondering is if we all get the same wind on the same holes throughout the round. I have my 3rd and 4th round left and I'm going to write down the wind on each hole. If someone else could do the same for the same rounds, I'd be curious to see if they are the same.

I guess it doesn't really matter as in real golf, there is different wind, just curious.

I know the wind on Alcatraz was about the same for me as it was for Jason in the third round. In the fourth round the wind was 8-9 mph in my face and slightly to the left. I almost had a hole in one but the ball glanced off the pin and ended up a foot away.

Yeah, that's 13. Fuck that hole.

I landed my tee shot on the back of the green, hit a nice soft putt.....it caught the ridge, rolls onto the fringe.

Chip shot lands on the hill, about a foot from the hole.....rolls back down to the edge of the green.

Putt it uphill, to within a foot of the hole, it stops....sits.....rolls back down the fucking hill.

I putt again, this time making sure to go past the hole, and then I have a nasty breaking 4 footer to save triple bogey.
I hit it to the back of the green on the fringe and was thinking about this post right here. I aimed 3 ft left of the hole and pitched it up about 5 ft short. It rolled with the break perfectly and went straight into the cup. If it had missed the hole it probably would have gone all the way off the green.
Yeah, this hole is ridiculous when the pin is right on edge of the hill going down to the left which is where it was in round 2. Round 1 I think it was front right which is easier. I'm guessing round 3 and 4 will have them back left which isn't bad if you land it in the middle of the green and let it release to the hole and then round 4 might be back right which isn't bad either.

Nope. It is close to the same spot every round. You have to deal with that slope all four rounds and a 17-18 mph wind both 3 rd and 4th rounds.

Ive realized I make absolutely zero mental notes when I play. In the four day tourneys, I usually play 2 rounds at a time. Youd think by the 3rd and 4th round Id have a recollection of what club I used for a particular approach etc....nope. Same mistake, every round

I played a little practice round this evening...I wanted to see what all the talk about 13 was. I was +1 on it. Just really an unfair pin placement. Looks like the place to hit is left side of the green for the uphill putt. I was in the sand and hit it up by the cup only to see it roll back down and made a putt for a bogey.

I played it just the opposite and stayed to the right. I was conservative when putting but played the hole 2 under for the tournament with two pars and two birdies(one chip in).

It is worse than just getting it to "within a foot". On the Day 2 placement, I gave myself the uphill putt to not deal with going down the hill. The ball missed by an inch to the right, got all the way even with the hole (on the first putt), and rolled back down. So the area within a circle that is a 1 inch radius from the cup edge can't even hold the ball. Just stupid.

What's stupid is guys shooting -50 in a major

I'm all for keeping it fun and not making it impossible to score but man where is the happy medium with this game?

The only thing that keeps these tournies interesting is beating dave

I'm working on a handicap system. I'm going to try it out behind the scenes for tournaments 7 and 8 and see what the results would look like.

Just played Rd 2. Rd going well, hit hole 13....all I could do was laugh. I took a 5 and it seem to mess up my rhythm a little. I'm just eyeing 2nd place, it will take two great rds to get past -41...
