Yeah, figuring out the percentages is the main thing.

Re: Draft Lottery
I think we'd go straight NBA style where you're not actually picking 10 lottery balls, just a top 4 or something like that...maybe top 3
So something like going from worst record to best record in the bottom 10 and 4 picks from the lottery balls:
16%
16%
16%
16%
12%
9%
7%
5%
2%
1%
Pick 4 lottery balls, those are your top 4 picks, everyone else falls in line according to record.
Re: Draft Lottery
I thought so too, until I noticed that the repeat offenders have 40 50 60 70 million dollar balances. I spent every dime I could to be somewhat "competitive" to be rewarded by a lower budget. Fan loyalty and stadium capacity seem to be big factors in that since owners don't set budget anymore.wdoupis wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 12:26 pm Thing about tanking is over half of the real bad tank jobs you see are due to guys going over budget and having no money and they can’t sign anyone. That is not really tanking unless you still do it after getting out of the hole. Yes, we have blatant ones where guys could add some and don’t and some owners honestly just suck at this.

Not sure it would fly in Winter Meetings, but this is why we should consider a salary floor IMO.KShorey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 12:54 pmI thought so too, until I noticed that the repeat offenders have 40 50 60 70 million dollar balances. Our league can’t have a salary floor without changing our financial system

Re: Draft Lottery
I have no problem going to this draft lottery what so ever, but you guys that get bent out of shape over tanking need to either do a better job of explaining how it's such a negative effect on the overall well being of the league, or get over it. Everyone doesn't have to play the game the same way as everyone else as long as there's no rule breaking going on here. It's that persons money that they spent on an online game.
If you enter rebuild mode, with the way our drafts have been for many seasons now, the quickest way to get built up is to have a Top 5 pick (and even that's iffy). Where's the advantage of not tanking there?

Re: Draft Lottery
I don’t have a problem with it whatsoever. I have more of a problem with dudes who go 20-25 seasons without being relevant. If a team has a plan to compete I don’t care how they achieve it
Re: Draft Lottery
But I like the lottery just because it’s fun. In Neurotic’s league it’s really popular and makes it fun

Re: Draft Lottery
i use this site for my fantasy football league and its done by amount of ping pong balls.
https://www.draftpicklottery.com/
you can pay to have the results emailed to every owner which is like $2. but you can do a zoom room and post results on the zoom for free. worst team gets most balls, and so on. you can weight it on this site.
in regards to tanking, almost every team in this league has tanked one time or another. i had a good run of 25 years of being competitive and the time comes when you have to cross that bridge , financial , players extensions and their age, other teams in your league and seeing you have no shot even if the moons align in the perfect scenario. Every team is run the way they think it should be run, 30 teams , 30 ways to put your shoes on in the morning.

Re: Draft Lottery
I’m definitely doing this rebuild thing wrong according to so many ok with tanking.
I have always attempted to hover around .500, add pieces here and there in FA, pick 10-15ish and pray for a slip into the wildcard with some cash into the next season.
Which has lead to this mediocre hell of no playoff appearances for a while.

Re: Draft Lottery
Can we get some more details? Is it for the top 10? Is it for everyone that didn't make the playoffs? How will the ping pong balls be distributed? If it's 10 teams then why not give 10 to the last place team and 9 to 2nd and so on.
https://www.fantasydraftlottery.com/
allows you to add how many ping pong balls as you like for each team.

Re: Draft Lottery
Yep, anything past top 3 is shit or you gotta get lucky. You wanna rebuild you gotta hard tank or or get lucky. Feels bad but that's the way it is. Guys losing 100 games for 3 seasons then coming back to win 90-100+ are doing it the right way IMO.

Re: Draft Lottery
we do it in my fantasy league where i prevent tanking during the end of the season to get the top pick next year. so starting week 9-12(4 weeks) the non playoff teams who score the most points get the most balls then so on. i think worst record gets most balls and so on. no guarantees worst is going to get top pick. i would be done for that scenario. but a total random job of non playoff teams wont work.
i would suggest the bottom 10 in win % go in the ping pong pool A so they are guaranteed a top 10 pick . then the remaining 8 teams who dont make the playoffs go into pool B with the ping pong balls allocated according to win %. So you basically have 2 drafts.

Re: Draft Lottery
My dumbass read the second page first thinking it was the first and really wasn't tracking what the hell was going on.
Using the website above, I entered 10 balls for last and 1 ball for 10th place. This was the results:
Houston - 9 balls
Port Orange - 6 balls
Cookeville - 8 balls
Omaha - 10 balls
LA - 7 balls
Rose City - 5 balls
Bowie - 2 balls
Fresno -3 balls
Baltimore - 4 balls
Boston - 1 ball

Re: Draft Lottery
I like the idea Corey presented but with all the uncertainty behind it we won’t get a clear vote tally. I will type up a new poll with the sim tomorrow explaining exactly how it would be done and we will start a new thread/poll so guys can vote on that.
By all means keep discussing ideas and everything. Just know there will be a clear plan and vote on it tomorrow.

Re: Draft Lottery
Losing doesn't guarantee you anything, I have yet to see how this will affect the competitive balance?
It does seem like a fun idea, but other than that I don't see the point.

Re: Draft Lottery
I am all for the draft lottery.
And tanking isn't the same as it used to be.
If you look at recent drafts, guys from the 3, 4, 5 or 6th rounds, etc. turn into good players.
I think it is more realistic honestly. Unless i am not looking at it right, which is entirely possible, but you are not guaranteed to "hit a homerun" if you have a top 10 pick.
