Re: Anyone play any sports now?
Since I turned 30 this year, I gave up a lot of the stuff I used to play (Tournament Softball being a biggy).
This year looked something like this:
SPRING:
Flag Football - Sunday Mornings
Men's Softball - Tuesday Nights
Golf - Thursday Nights
Coed Softball - Friday Nights
Golf - Every other Sat.
SUMMER / Early FALL: It was pretty much Spring, minus a softball league.
Late FALL / WINTER:
Flag Football - Sunday Morning
Broomball - Sunday Night
Flag Football - Thursday Night
And we're going to fit in a basketball league somewhere.... just trying to appease all of my friends' schedules.

Re: Anyone play any sports now?
play golf and try and run 3 times a week. In the spring softball starts. My softball schedule league wise this year was tuesdays, wednesdays, and fridays. Played in about 15 tournaments....The schedule around here is usually begining of May through labor day. I love play softball, my wife hates the money i have invested in bats. Unfortunately, we are one of the few areas in Ohio that is mostly ASA, so you have asa bats and Nsa/Utrip bats...I ve probably spent over 1200 dollars on bats the last couple of years. Its been fun, i ll continue to play tourny ball till the kids come around. Its been nice to travel out of state and go to nationals the last couple of years. Unfortunately, playing alot of ball affects my golf swing so i only went out about 5 times this year. Dont play much co-ed anymore, My natural swing is up the middle, and after i hit that girl in the leg pitching i felt like shit, so i just didnt play anymore. (the middle is a big hole especially if a team is not playing a 5 man).....

i thought shooting up the middle was a big no-no in softball. i have a bunch of friends that play in all those competitive tourneys and i remember them getting into a fight after a game cause a guy shot one up the middle and almost killed the pitcher

Re: Anyone play any sports now?
Going up the middle is dangerous but there are certain situations where there is no other place to hit the ball. If I have 2 strikes and the next pitch looks low but possibly a strike I'm swinging and usually those go right back up the middle. Then there are other glorified ex-jocks that all they really have going for them is softball and drinking and go up the middle no matter what. then they act like they are "The Sultan of Swat" of softball. Those type of guys/teams are the ones that usually get into some arguments.
Re: Anyone play any sports now?
i play year round in an adult soccer league (3 seasons spring/summer/fall). 1-2 lg games and 2-3 pickup games a week. getting older makes it tough to keep up with the college kids, but it gets me off the couch. this summer the wife's office formed a team so i play with them as well.

Stand Up Chuck And Let Em See You!

Rumor also is that Buckeye 'shaves' hit bats that freaking cheeser!!

in all seriousness, I NEVER shoot the middle. Almost to a fault.

I'm the starting goalie for Miami University's lacrosse team. We are not a varsity program, but we are what is called "virtual varsity" because the teams are run that way but jsut aren't varsity programs (Lacrosse is growing).
Here is a link to our national site : http://mcla.us/
And our Conference: http://mcla.us/CCLA/
The MCLA would be our NCAA and the CCLA would be our MAC or Big East etc...
I've started all 4 years here after transferring from Navy. I was All-Conference last year
Other than that I play intramural hockey, broomball, and I play golf as well

Re: Anyone play any sports now?
I golf usually a few times a month and play Ultimate Frisbee twice a week.
Re: Anyone play any sports now?
What the hell is Broomball?
Currently playing JC soccer for Ocean County College in NJ. We've been as high as 3 in the nation this season but some injuries really set us back and are now 14th. 2 games away from Nationals so it's pretty cool to be part of a winning team finally, even if it's only junior college

Re: Anyone play any sports now?
i ve never purposely went up to bat and said im going middle....Its the two strike middle out pitch that you have to swing at that sometimes will go back up the middle. But in no way am i a middle shooter, just a mistake in a co-ed game.....steelcitychaos wrote:Going up the middle is dangerous but there are certain situations where there is no other place to hit the ball. Best intramural game ever. Half ice, hockey goal height, but 1.5 times as wide, tiny soccer ball sized ball, sticks that are like short hockey sticks but with a hard plastic broom looking end, 5 on 5 (including goalies), and you wear tennis shoes. It's really fun. Our club team was the national champ last yearDRWebs wrote:What the hell is Broomball?

use to play shitload of basketball.. but it always led to re injuring my ankle.. but love the game.. Just hate when I go on my long sabitacal, and come back playing like shit.. when I know I use to be able to do so much more. Playing against some of the young college kids, and some HS is hell.. Hate running up down the court with them ..

Re: Anyone play any sports now?
Ohio is a hotbed for d-bag softball players. The past few years of tourny ball, I've actually been taking my broomball (read:hockey) helmet to games, in case shit gets crazy. I've only brought it out 2 times that I can remember and I tournament game that I didn't have it, I just told our coach I was done pitching. Mouthpiece is standard, even in coed games though.
I've pitched over 300 games, so I do everything in my power not to go middle. Sometimes it just happens though. And when it does... an "I'm sorry pitch" is being yelled before I'm 2 steps out of the box.
Thankfully, now that I'm done with tournament ball and I've sucked our catcher into being our permanent pitcher in league play, I can just go pick daisies in left.
After seeing 5 guys go down in the Cincinnati area alone, last year, it was probably a good time to walk away. I don't know the whole story, but I know 1 of bats had been shaved and it was pretty freakin' obvious due to the shitastic recap job that was done on it. To me, that's worth a hefty jail term.

Re: Anyone play any sports now?
played softball until about 5 years ago-prolly more, but I cant recall at the moment, when my son got more involved in sports.
Trying to pick up golf again after a long layoff, and teach my son how to play(mostly by not playing like I do)
As far as up the middle on softball, if the pitcher doesnt want it hit up the middle, make sure you pitch it inner half, or WELL outside. Leave that beachball on the outer 1/3 of the plate, get your glove ready bitch! LOL
Although, last league I was in, a freaking 2nd baseman took one off the forehead and busted him open, pretty scary, but he was ok.
