2018 75% of flu deaths were 65+. They also had only 52 000 deaths from the flu
Historians estimate 500k Americans died from the Spanish flu in 2 years. You guys are at 167/500 in 7? Months.
So 167k/7*24 is 572 000 or more than the Spanish flu.
Age or not y’all need to figure it out

So far we get over 80 in quarantine and and dozen or so positives. The dashboard on home page updates daily so follow along at home!

So what you're saying is that COVID is like the BASF of viruses... it doesn't kill a lot of old people you know, it kills a lot of old people you know faster?

We are now up to over 30 positive and over 300 in quarantine. Now they are subtracting and not just keeping a number total. When a positive student comes back they subtract from covid and isolation numbers. These are current active cases.

Is there a plan already set for how many cases / quarantines they'll go to, before shifting to remote?

We have remote already in place. Was parent choice. After this Friday, student is locked in to their choice for 9 weeks. Right now not sure what our remote numbers are but I’d say 15 percent maybe 20. Next step being worked on for middle and elementary level is students stay in one class and teachers rotate to different rooms.
Typical illness shutdown is about 12%.
High school football starts this week. 1 high school in our county will miss first 2 games as the entire team has been quarantined. No forfeit.

The D614G mutation of COVID-19 has been found in a handful of cases in Malaysia. The mutation is the predominant one found in Europe and the US. However, while reports have said that this strain is more infectious, it is not necessarily more fatal.

Not a conspiracy but I genuinely wonder what's the difference between H1N1 & COVID that one calls for mass testing and the other the CDC said it was a waste of time to test and track case counts:
In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases. The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there's an epidemic?

"COVID-19, the illness caused by a severe acute respiratory syndrome—known as SARS—coronavirus 2, is much more contagious and many times more deadly. There are no approved treatments or vaccines, leading to lockdowns and quarantines ordered by public health officials.
The novel coronavirus appears to cause more severe illness and deaths in older people, although scientists are rushing to learn more.
With H1N1, children and young adults were more likely to get sick because older people had built up some immunity through exposure to similar strains of flu that had circulated decades before.
Nearly all who caught H1N1 developed mild to moderate symptoms, but it spooked health officials because of the higher risk for young people and pregnant women.
In perhaps the most important difference between the two pandemics of the 21st century, H1N1 illnesses responded well to anti-viral drugs already used to treat the flu."

The number determines how weak it is. H1 N1

Gotcha, thanks Crowes and nick.
So basically this was just a poorly written line:
The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there's an epidemic?
There was a reason, much beyond this quote.
And fwiw, that quote was from a 2009 CBS news article.

I only know cause of mom. When she had it we thought swine flu from like 2009 but turns out h1n1 is just the yearly weakest flu

Watching all the schools in the US get covid, I’m expecting (if I don’t have yet) that I’ll have by the end of the 2nd week. Fun times

America got a “weak” mutation and still 170k dead. That’s concerning.

We made it all of one week here before changes. 4 confirmed cases but the teachers are supposedly overwhelmed with having to do in person and virtual learning. So after this week going to 4 day in person learning if you aren't 100% virtual learning then on Fridays entire system to require kids to stay home and do virtual learning.

13 full days in
44 active positives
484 isolated/quarantine ( direct contact with infected for extended time) makes up 4.5 percent of total system.
My school leads the way with 82 in quarantine and 6 positives. Go Jackets.
