Is Mel Kiper for real? I'm not a draft expert, and I don't even know who Bortles is, but would you take Bortles over Bridgewater if you were taking a QB in the first round?

Yes. Bortles throws a better deep ball (Bridgewater has a cannon but is wholly inaccurate beyond 15 yards) and is built better for the NFL (Bridgewater is barely 200 pounds). That said, I wouldn't want Jacksonville taking either one.

I'm actually more surprised by the #1 pick...
I figured he'd go in the first round, but really didn't expect him to go in front of Bortles or Bridgewater. Is it because it's Houston and they want a state of Texas star or am I just really uneducated on Manziel's NFL greatness capabilities?

Hype machine and he will sell tickets, jerseys, etc.
Even all that though, I dont think a team risks a #1 pick for only the above. I guess some think he will be a good NFLer.

I'm interested to see Manziel. He doesn't have the greatest arm, but if you watch him, he can make all the throws very adequately.
But the running around behind the line of scrimmage for 10 seconds thing he likes to do obviously won't work in the NFL.

Oh I agree, but at the same time it's not like this guy is just pulling names out of a hat. I'd like to know his reasoning for Manziel going in front of all these other players.

Just watched a highlight reel. What I like about Bortles is he reads defense. He doesn't get the presnap read from the sidelines like a lot of QBs are starting to be taught now.

Georgia has so much talent on d but have underachieved for such a long time. If he can get those players to play up to their talent and
stay out of trouble then he will be gone in 2 to 3 years being an HC.

One of the local radio stations here in Jax has reported that the move was not about money, FSU offered to match Ga's offer. But was about a girl.
The guy is 39, But loves the nightlife and the ladies of a college town. The story they tell is that he met and proposed to a 23 yr old girl, but was also messing around with a young girl who works in the FSU athletic dept. Evidently the 23 yr old said yes, but only if they left Tallahassee. So they claim that's why he took the lateral move. Not sure how true it is, but it's a fantastic story.
Here's the link if you want to listen to the story yourself:
