And Ali withdraws. Blatter wins.
No chance there's anything shady there...

I feel like the chance of Blatter making to the end of this 4yr term is less than 50%.

Re: Soccer discussion thread
Basically, two things happening here:
1) Visa, Nike, and a few other sponsors likely went to Blatter and said "step aside, or we will". The pressure being put on them was immense and they couldn't be associated with what was going on, esp when the words "bribery" are being tossed around by IRS and DOJ
2) Blatter is now being investigated heavily by FBI/DOJ, and from a statement today, multiple people are "in a race" to flip on Blatter. He knows it, and now he's trying to get out and get somewhere safe before it rains down on him.

I'm guessing Platini said, leave FIFA or UEFA will.

That also just reminded me that I can watch a few episodes of that this afternoon to cure my boredom! Thanks!

Re: Soccer discussion thread
john oliver had a vid last yr too about how Brazil was being raped of finances and nothing changed. Its cause of the FBI dropping a serious charge on 10 people, and not just people bitching and moaning.

I don't think he will take over; they need new blood, and he voted for Qatar for 2022.

The same people that are going to elect a new president are the ones who just voted for Blatter a few days ago. Not good.trendon wrote:Negative slant: Meet the new boss ... same as the old boss.ReignOnU wrote:Sepp Blatter stepping down!

That's why I was laughing. Usually one would think that a Swiss guy in Switzerland would be immune... Not anymore!jsence2 wrote:Seeitsaveit13 wrote:Hmm. Switzerland?jsence2 wrote: He knows it, and now he's trying to get out and get somewhere safe before it rains down on him.

Nevertheless, this ragtag group of kids managed to qualify for the World Cup! South American qualification is pretty confusing, but long story short, Ecuador mustered a furious comeback against Argentina to make it to the regional playoff, where they then beat Trinidad & Tobago over two legs to qualify for the big shebang. This is almost like a group of buddies entering their weekend team into the FA Cup, then making it all the way to the rounds where the Premier League teams show up. Sure, they’re almost certain to get wrecked, but the journey itself was worth it.
