Ahhh, i'm jealous, lol.
End of 1, Paul has 9 assists. Beast!!
Heat look on offense like they did against the Celtics. No rhythm whatsoever, and Eddie House shooting every single time he touches the ball.

Re: NBA Thread
Pacers just scored 54 points in the 3rd quarter...20 for 21, and the only shot they missed was the last one of the quarter....we'll probably score 6 points in the 4th though

Miami is 5-3.Quest4Gold wrote:Just an update, Cleveland is 4-3 right now
Right now, looks like Miami should have only signed 2 and got some quality role players rather than all minimum guys to surround the 3

Re: NBA Thread
I quit watching the Heat game at halftime, got bored with it.
Millsap hits three 3s in the closing seconds, and according to ESPN, the Jazz scored 14 points in the final :28 or so.
Offensively, Lebron is just really passive and deferring to Wade WAY too much.

SO the same guy who invented PER to determine who the best ( opps) I mean, most efficient player of all time is also the same guy with his super cool ranking system for the NBA teams...
SOooooo....He has Heat #1 and the Celtics #6...
hmm...makes sense..

I mean, I'm assuming it's a statistical measurement. It's hard to claim biased towards a team in a measurement that you can actually calculate, lol.
Re: NBA Thread
yeah, it was put up this morning I think...
Just dont know how his stats say the Heat are better than the Celtics as of this moment..I mean things may change next week...BUT RIGHT NOW...no fucking way...
The Celts proved they were and are better than the Heat at this very moment...Guess I just need a calculator to prove it..fuck, once I guess that calculator, I will also prove that Kareem Abdul Jabbar was better than Charles Barkley

That is what I got on my calculator. No bias there.

Both teams had 2 losses as of this morning.
And that is the beauty of statistical measurements, they remove ALL biases.

Its not the beauty Shelton....
If you and I have about the same record, and the same level of opponents played and we play a game of one on one...and I win..I am better than you

Well, according to Hollinger, that is factually incorrect.jeffdaddy wrote:Its not the beauty Shelton....

One of my goals was to create a system that told us more about a team's quality than the standings do.
So instead of winning percentage, these rankings use points scored and points allowed, which are better indicators of a team's quality than wins and losses.
This might not sound right at first, but studies have shown scoring margin to be a better predictor of future success than a team's win-loss record. Thus, scoring margin is a more accurate sign of a team's quality.
And also, just like when the BCS 1st comes out, with such a small sample size, rankings aren't nearly as accurate as they'll be towards the end of the season. I think that is the main thing to take from these rankings.

Oh, and I know you HATE PER, and I suspect it's because Lebron has been so dominant in that stat category.jeffdaddy wrote:SO the same guy who invented PER to determine who the best ( opps) I mean, most efficient player of all time

But, a company that analyzes stats ran statistcal analyses on all popular basketball stats that people throw around. It started with the 70s I believe and used hindsight to gauge how accurately each stat could predict win totals. Hollinger's PER was the only one that was concluded to have actual predictive value.
I mean, we can debate it all day, but that is pretty damn significant to be the only stat that has predictive value.
Re: NBA Thread
its hilarious watching people try to argue against stats and PER. these stats are not HIS or OUR opinion, lol. its just analyzing what actually happens on the court. there is no bias. 'maybe when i get a calculator' lol, gimme a break man. there is a reason just about every team in the NBA employs an advanced stats guy and some teams hire gm's and directors of player personel based on their education/math background. MJ, greatest basketball player ever, has proven to be one of the worst evaluators of talent in NBA history.
also, Pat RIley was on Lebatard a couple days ago. Riley said on Lebatard when asked about Lebron 'he has just such a high basketball IQ, you can't teach that.' another example of why opinions don't matter. you say he has low/average basketball iq, he says he has high. he's probably one of the greatest executives in NBA history so who am i supposed to believe. in my eyes, neither opinion matters .
heres what shaq said about Lebron's bball iq.
its also pretty funny how all your favorite players are Magic, Kareem and Kobe. but there is no bias involved in your analysis.

Shaq: LeBron James Has Higher Basketball IQ than Kobe Bryant
It's well-documented that Shaquille O'Neal has high standards for coaches. Typically, it takes one of iconic status such as Pat Riley or Phil Jackson to impress him.
That makes his praise of LeBron James that much more notable.
"His basketball IQ is phenomenal," O'Neal said of James. "He could coach in the NBA right now."
The 24-year-old James has impressed O'Neal with his thorough knowledge of the game -- his understanding of angles, of defensive principles, of how to set up teammates, of how opponents defend various plays and players, and of not only his own responsibilities on the court but those of all his teammates as well.
O'Neal hasn't talked about who's better between James and his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, Kobe Bryant. But he has told confidantes that James has the advantage in basketball IQ, saying he's the smartest star he's played with in his 18-year career.
its also pretty funny how all your favorite players are Magic, Kareem and Kobe. but there is no bias involved in your analysis.

Re: NBA Thread
That was a crazy ending last night. Sad, but crazy.
Miami couldnt get a rebound and then no one covered Milsap who was just lighting it up from 3 for some weird reason.
I actually think Lebron had the type of game he needs to with this team. Im not saying he needs a triple double every night but he was distributing and making plays rather than doing all the heavy lifting.
They just couldnt make free throws and get the big rebound when need be after giving the game away.
