I saw the video last night... obviously it's a horrible thing to have happen... but I didn't get that gruesome feeling that I've had after watching/hearing some shots back up the middle.

hes a machine, but hes actually not. Hes getting very lucky thus far. .400+ BABIP compared to his .347ish career avg (still incredible). and his ISO power is down from a retarded .270 to .230 (still good). His K% is very low for him, and his BB% is better than last year. He wont keep this up though (obviously) but still a nice run.
hes still a freak, but hes gonna regress back to like .330 (still great)

1. You can't say he's not better than give like 5 stats of which, 4 are better than last year lol.
2. You completely glossed over the actual premis of my post.

3. What the heck is this ISO average? I see it on OOTP, but never looked it up so I ignore it.

This is the furthest into the season that Ive kept up with Tigers box scores, which is saying something. I was skeptical of the Hunter signing when it happened, but damn is he making me look like an idiot

Isolated Power or ISO is a sabermetrics baseball statistic which aims to measure a batter's raw power. The formula is slugging percentage minus batting average. The final result measures how many extra bases a player averages per at bat. A player who hits only singles would thus have an ISO of 0. The maximum ISO is 3.000, and could only be attained by hitting a home run in every at-bat. Power hitters ordinarily have an ISO between .240 and .300.

I don't get the relevance of this ISO stat, it's just not clicking for me.

So a guy who only hits home runs is going to have an ISO will be 3.00, meaning he is averaging three extra bases per (hit?). All singles is 0.00, meaning no extra bases.
Relevant in that a higher ISO means more of his hits go for extra bases. Although Im not smart enough to know whether a guy with .350 ISO and .190 BA is more or less valuable that a guy who hits .050 ISO and .400 BA

I should have said it just isn't necessary, though i guess more data is better than less.
Seems like you can easily look and tell whether a guy is like Mark McGwire(lower average, higher SLG) or Tony Gwynn(opposite). Of course, it could be useful for stuff in between, but I guess I think it's something you can easily kind of look at and ballpark when you see a guy's average/SLG.
