I *think* that they could have called holding in the endzone, but the safety would have been the result anyway. Not sure if that impacts the time on the clock at all. Still, it let the punter just hang around in the endzone for 7 seconds (or whatever it was).

Dumb for us as fans.ajalves wrote:I've said this before in here, but with the 2 week gap its dumb the Superbowl in on a Sunday rather than Saturday
But probably pretty smart for the NFL.

Re: Super Bowl Thread
business wise much smarter on a Sunday night... more viewers
more viewers = more ads
on a smaller note, the host city gets extra day for people in their city.

i think more people would go to SB parties if it was on saturday night, thus more viewers. I also think people would show up on site a day earlier thus negating the sunday night hotel losses.

Not all of em.ajalves wrote: I also think people would show up on site a day earlier thus negating the sunday night hotel losses.
And you're still not thinking about those casual fans who'll watch just because they're home on a Sunday evening as opposed to going out and doing something non-SB related on a Saturday evening.

i think you're over estimating how many people watched last night simply because they were home. just my opinionshel311 wrote:Not all of em.ajalves wrote: I also think people would show up on site a day earlier thus negating the sunday night hotel losses.

We'll agree to disagree because I think the amount of folks who watched just because they were home is huge.ajalves wrote:i think you're over estimating how many people watched last night simply because they were home. just my opinionshel311 wrote:Not all of em.ajalves wrote: I also think people would show up on site a day earlier thus negating the sunday night hotel losses.

Re: Super Bowl Thread
Why couldnt they just change the NFL schedule so the super bowl is always on the Sun before MLK day?

its not that i dont think the number was huge, i just feel like the dropoff would be a lot less than you guys think if it was Saturday instead.
Im sure businesses around the country wouldnt mind either, just from an absentee and productivity standpoint

Doubling sure seems like a bit of an overstatement IMO.
And also you're talking about stuff like beer and food, why would the NFL care about selling more beer and food, when they feel they can get higher ratings on a Sunday?

the companies making the beer and food can also advertise.shel311 wrote:Bit of both.ajalves wrote:im not sure if you're laughing because you think its funny or disagree.shel311 wrote:BFiVL wrote:50 million cases of beer sold for Super Bowl. Have it on a Saturday, 75 -100 million easy.

I mean, do you honestly for one second think if the game was moved to Saturday next year that the price for a 30 second spot would drop?

They're going to advertise regardless.ajalves wrote:the companies making the beer and food can also advertise
The NFL is going to sell all their ad spots no matter what, so selling more beer, I dont see how that should be a big need for the NFL.
