The Mexican fans look like they're about to break off a "Heil Hitler" salute every time they sing their national anthem

About time we get a game that is VERY entertaining to open. Obviously these two teams need a decision in a big time way with uruguay smashing South Africa the other day.

Trenton, not that I dont believe you, but I definately heard a chant during this game. Either way, I hope the horns arent as prevalent in the second games. So far so good.

I hope so, too. I can't watch, though. I've given up on trying to find a stream that doesn't look like a stop motion animation. I have my work cut out for me tomorrow morning.

I hate that bullshit.

Toulalan should have seen red there, but it wasn't a "clear goal scoring opportunity". That said, he KNEW what he was doing, he fouled him to stop a 3 v 1 break.....to me, that is just as bad.

Luckily his douchey ass will miss the next match.

Is that really a douchey play, stopping a run like that? Looked like a smart play, IMO.

And that Mexico player shoulda passed the ball to the guy on the left before he got hit, they woulda had a really nice run there.

It was both--it's called a "professional foul", it's where a player basically commits a foul KNOWING they will be booked, but doing it anyways to prevent a breakaway or a bad situation.

It's like a player in college football holding a wideout 45 yds downfield, knowing he'll only give up a 15 yd penalty. Some see it as smart, some see it as lame--that said, Toulalan is a prick, so there's that douche factor as well.

Or an NBA player committing a foul when the other team has a fastbreak.

Sounds like a REALLY smart play if you ask me.

I teachmy DB's in football if your beat bad on a double move hold........PERIOD. its just a 5 yard penalty, ill take that over a TD anyday.

The Mexicans at my work are going nuts, and most likely have been drinking on the job all day long......

They need to put in Henry for a lil French Magic here.

What really sucks, Bodog's in-match betting had Mexico +400. I was putting some money on it and was about to hit "submit" when they scored their first goal.

FML.

That said....bye bye France :D

That was a picture perfect penalty shot. Tucked just inside the post.

And in hockey, you are taught to start maiming anyone in front of the net on a scramble in front with little time on the clock. A penalty stops play and the faceoff is in an unfavorable position for the offense even if they win the draw.

I wanted to get away from the Native Americans as fast as I could. They are all evil and killed the people who peacefully came here from Europe to explore.

This is the worst ref I've ever seen in soccer.

This guy has been booking people for silly fouls--FOULS, not bookable offenses! Now, Germany has lost their best goalscorer in Klose and are down 1-0.

Soccernet's take:
Klose has been sent off, for the two most innocuous fouls you will ever see. Pathetic refereeing. Just awful, awful, awful.

Referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco from Spain, is a joke. That was absolutely pathetic. He's ruined the game with those ridiculous bookings.

The announcers even predicted there would be an early red card the way this moron was going....hope he enjoys reffing this match, he won't ref again in the knockout rounds. He has handed out six bookings in the first half. Cards are meant for warnings for reckless and dangerous fouls, not just for fouling someone. This is a contact sport!
