why would they do this?
The same reason why some people all over the world do it? They don't like, or just downright hate gay people?

You're right, no NFL players make anti-gay remarks, or say they wouldn't want one as a teammate.
so what.

It's not courage. It's a "look at me. Look at me" thing.
Are you 2 talking about Sam or what?
What he did rather obviously took courage and it also rather obviously wasn't a "look at me" deal.

Not sure rather obvious as we honestly don't know his intentions. It could improve his draft stock which would make it a definite look at me, self marketing or it backfires on the timing and he drops in a projected draft slot.
Why now? Why not his sophomore year in college or after he gets drafted?
Not as obvious as you are making it out to be imo

He talked to Mantei about ways to get people to talk about you...

Allegedly, the cat was close to coming out of the bag so that's why he did it now, among other reasons.

I think it's very obvious. He's explained it as well. He said a lot of people already knew, and before he took this kind of leap going to an NFL team, he wanted to own it and be in charge of his life, so he wanted to announce it rather than it getting leaked. Of course you never really know anything, but I stick by my comment that it was rather obivously not a "look at me" thing. If it was, he would do that after the draft, doing it now, the odds of it having adverse effects are much greater than it boosting his draft status/future earnings in a contract.
Help vs hurt his draft stock, yea there's no chance he did this to help his draft stock

This.
That being said, you could argue if it is this, then it didn't take guts to do it. I see your point, but I'd still disagree.

I was talking about coming out in general concurring with ajalves question. Why the need to get in everybody's face and flaunt your sexuality? There is no need. The reason to come out in such a manner is to draw attention to yourself. I along with most rational people don't care. I also don't want it pushed in my face all the time. Just because you are homosexual doesn't mean you have to be militant about it.

I gotcha in that you were piggybacking off of AJ.
But, AJ was quoting a post specifically talking about Sam here, so I don't know why we're going on and on about getting in everyone's face and shoving it folks' faces. I don't know of anyone, though I'm sure there are some, that think Sam did that, so if you don't think Sam did that, why are we bringing that up? Seems odd, is all.

Aj's question was a generality thus the general response.

he did what he did, I don't really care one way or the other.
This was his version of the "Decision"

why aren't all of the gay players in the upcoming NFL draft announcing they are gay in a nationwide interview?
I'm assuming if the NFL draft class is a reflection of the population, more than one of them are gay

He should have actually done it like The Decision. Some fairly unknown guy on a national stage, everyone wondering why he has a 1 hour special, ratings shoot up in the final 10 minutes to see what his decision is.
I woulda watched the final few minutes of that.

I mean, its rather obvious
All I am saying is you arent him so you dont know the true exact reason why making it not rather obvious.
Sure people found out and now he is saying it before the draft because he wanted to do it on his terms, but why not announce it when he enrolled at mizzou, or sophomore year, or when he graduated, or a random thursday at a practice?
