Then I don't know that Wade is too far off base, then.
Really?

I consider jersey sales like fundraising for the USOC to help pay for training for all the athletes that aren't making millions in their everyday job.

Being an Olympic athlete is completely voluntary. Wanting to be paid for being a volunteer is preposterous.

the people who work the event dont get paid and youre not allowed sponsors on your clothes or something. (not 100% on the 2nd one)

And for the record here, this is really Ray Allen's deal that he talked about. Wade was just asked about it and responded.

And i guess because he's a more high profile athlete, his quotes become more talked about.

I think Nike is the official sponsor of Team USA's gear, though I'm not sure that's what you were talking about.

Whats so far off base of what he said?

He didnt say single NBA players should be paid for being in the olympics, he said Olympians.

Its his opinion on the matter like a lot of people disagree with college athletes being paid.

Lets not kid ourselves, the Olympics stopped being about "patriotism" and "country pride" a looooooooooong time ago and is strictly about money like anything else in sports now a days.

Who gets the money for all of the jersey sales and memorabilia off of their image and likeness?

I don't know, but I'm not sure that it's the players.
Wade and Allen will be happy to know that the sales and memorabilia off their image and likeness helps fund the first class airfair and accomodations, travel to and from the stadium, food, medical teams, and rental of practice facility. It also goes to pay for the salaries of the excutive members that plan the olympics, on both the national and international levels. All these things cost money.

If Mr. Wade is upset that he doesnt get revenues from olympic jersey sales, he should contact Nike or Reebok and renegotiate his contract with them, as they already compensate Wade for the right to use his image and likeness in any way they choose, included on olympic jersey sales.

Really? Where in my local footlocker can I find the jerseys of Annette Norberg, or Sourian Hamid? Must be sold out.

He is obviously talking about NBA players since 99% of all other sports (soccer might be the only other one, and they dont use their top talent) dont have jersey sales to worry about.

Yea because its allllllll about volunteering and doing it for your country.

You are "not living in reality" if you think that is why most of these athletes compete in the Olympics.

I will say some are for the right reasons but thats in obscure sports like badminton and crap and Im sure they even get sponsorships for the shitty sports like table tennis and things.

People are acting like he said F the U.S. and the Olympics.

He made an honest comment that most wouldnt and would go the politically correct route and bullshit the media and fans. Lets chastise him for being honest.

I'm not chastising him for being honest. I'm chastising him for be a greedy bastard. There are plenty of NBA players that would love to be on the Olympic team that have no concern at all for being reimbursed for their services.

I'm guessing that is Wade and Allen's main points.
