Why would Brooklyn do a sign and trade when they know they'll get Dwight regardless?

Why would Brooklyn do a sign and trade when they know they'll get Dwight regardless?

cause due to bird rights Houston can offer him more money than any other team (1 more year). so why would howard want say 5 yrs when he can get 6?

So apparently we're now looking at the Knicks letting the Rockets swallow their poison pill contract to Jeremy Lin and instead doing a sign-and-trade to bring Ray Felton back to NY.

Seems likely. I don't see how they can effectively pay Lin $30 million over the next three years (counting the luxury tax). The sample size of his performance is too small and too skewed by D'Antoni when he was around. Still don't know if Lin can run the Woodson team with Carmelo and Amare in there. I don't think there would be enough shots to go around.

The offer sheet from Houston was for $25 mil over 3 seasons with ~$15 mil in the third season. The article I read said the total cost of the contract would come closer to $30 mil over the 3 seasons.

The Rockets did the backloaded deal so the bulk of Lin's contract would match up with the bulk of Melo and the other guy they have. The Knicks would be looking at over $40 mill in luxury tax. Sorry, but Lin isn't worth that. Let the Rockets make that mistake.

It's obvious the Knicks aren't high on Lin. They brought on Jason Kidd and of course traded for Felton. Can't see them matching.

It actually brings the 2014-15 season to $30 million just for Lin alone.

I"m not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I'm sure when they waived him, they didn't think he was a guy who could average 18 and 8 or whatever he put up.

Luxury tax. Melo and Stat make the bulk of their money when Lin's deal shoots sky high, which is why the Rockets structured it how it is.

But saying that equates to paying Lin $43 mill is quite dramatic.
