SEATTLE (AP) — One person was killed and another was in critical condition in a pre-dawn shooting in Seattle’s protest zone, authorities said Saturday.

The shooting happened at about 3 a.m. in the area near downtown known as CHOP, which stands for “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest” zone, police said in a statement on Twitter.

Seattle Police Sgt. Lauren Truscott told The Seattle Times that she didn’t know whether police had taken anyone into custody and that she had no immediate details about how the shooting unfolded.

Investigators were reviewing reviewing public-source video and body-camera video for clues and authorities planned to disclose more information about the shooting later, Truscott said.

Two males with gunshot wounds arrived in a private vehicle at Harborview Medical Center at about 3 a.m., said hospital spokesperson Susan Gregg. One died and the other one was in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Welcome to America?

Is someone getting shot unique to the zone?

Probably should go in the not so news worthy thread. Sadly it sounds like another day in Chicago.

Based on what I saw with a quick search... tons of youngsters reserved hundreds of tickets each and never intended on going. Probably unlikely that they'll boast about ticket reservations in the future. With that said, getting comfortable and playing off thousands of supporters showing up because it wasn't nearly what they said, is pretty reminiscent of how 2016 played out.

About the worst thing the dems can do is just assume that Biden being up +8 in the general and Trump's approval rating dipping, are signs of a clear road ahead. Trump did lose the popular to Clinton. In that election, Johnson pulled about 3%-4% and Stein pulled 1%. The Libertarian candidate is a retread for 2020. If she gets 2% I'd be surprised. Meanwhile, regardless of who the Green party puts up (probably Stein?), there are many far left voters already saying that they will either stay home or vote Green, because they absolutely won't support Biden.

I don't know what the current betting odds are, but if Trump can be had a plus money, it seems like a good bet. His biggest headwind at this point is a 2nd wave. Biden has to get through debates, figure out how to not alienate the Bernie Bros and the far left that want to stay home, and he has to pick a VP candidate that isn't a moron (Abrams), isn't hated by the far left (Harris), that moderates don't despise (Warren) and that hasn't already said she shouldn't do it (Klobuchar). (I'll say it 1 more time... Keisha Lance Bottoms is his best option). Oh yeah, it might help if he actually talks at some point too.

Guess the autonomous zone isn't so autonomous. Also, seems like "not the leader" Raz doesn't understand how scene security works for emergency response.

This dude is the president
"You know testing is a double-edged sword," Trump said while complaining about media coverage of his handling of the virus. He said that the US has now tested some 25 million people. "Here's the bad part... when you do testing to that extent, you're going to find more people; you're going to find more cases. So I said to my people, slow the testing down please."

I'd guess less than 30min for a WH staffer to say he was joking or misunderstood. Maybe this time it was "he never said that."

Unique perspective that elsewhere in the world the democratic party here in the US would be considered a conservative learning party in almost every other country. Just thought that was an interesting point for what we consider to be " liberal" or "conservative".

KPop fans are the fucking best. Trolling Trump

"After @TeamTrump tweeted asking supporters to register for free tickets using their phones on June 11, K-pop fan accounts began sharing the information with followers, encouraging them to register for the rally — and then not show."

I want to make sure I'm understanding you here. This zone has probably a couple hundred, maybe a few hundred people.

Are you saying it's normal for a "town" this small to have 3 separate shooting incidents in a 12 day span?

That's not even getting into the fact that the "town" has existed for maybe a month, tops.

And you got this as just normal run of the mill shootings you see every day?

I think you are quantifying it wrong. It's not a town of 200 or 300 people in a rural area is it? I could be wrong but thats what it seems like ur implying.

No, it's just a neighborhood in Seattle a major metropolitan area essentially correct?

Soo I would think whatever the averages are for a city that size (4 million in the metro area) as far as gun violence isn't blown outta the water for 3 acts the past 12 days.

Other then police are they limiting the coming and going of anyone else into the zone to really shut themselves off? I don't think they are but I could be wrong.

Does that specific zone of 3 blocks or so typically have 3 shootings every 12 days?

Or do you think those 3 shootings were extremely atypical for a 12 day span in that specific area and the extreme rise in violence in that specific area can be attributed to the current situation?

There ya go.

I mean I don't know if one can find stats for that specific area of the city thru Google but if I looked at the stats and did the math right inside the city limits of Seattle there is on average in a 12 day period there is 7-8 acts of gun violence.

So draw whatever conclusion you want if having 3 in this area of the city is some major increase in violence considering everything going on. 🤷‍♂️
