Sony said the Credit Card content was safe. I'll believe them.jsence2 wrote:Guys, you may want to go ahead and change the card info. There are reports that there is a database of 2.2 million credit card numbers up for sale.

$20 for the store as "a good start"? There's 77 MILLION PSN users. Shit, take that down to 50 million to account for multiple accounts (I would be receiving over $100 for all the random accounts I have made) and you are still talking about a billion dollars. My guess is we get a free movie voucher or something similar (still a TON of money) or 3 months of PS+ free. Not sure what else we can expect.
Like I said, if they give cross game chat (which has been rumored during this) I will forget this ever happened.
Re: is the PSN network down?
The article mentions three instances of possible fraud. 3 out of 77 million I'm going to say might be below average. And who has a credit card that could be authorized for $1500 in groceries purchased in Germany? I think my card would decline that immediately.
Re: is the PSN network down?
That would be dribbling purple crayola-eater levels of retarded on their part but I get what you are saying.shel311 wrote:Or, if Sony was to get rid of the PSN, just say it wasn't profitable and they're doing away with it.
Re: is the PSN network down?
This gen has been a Sony killer. Has anybody ever lost market share like Sony did between the last gen and this gen? I bet they owned 95% of the market back in the PS2 days.
They were late as shit with the PS3 and that allowed Microsoft to jump out of the gates. Then they jump into the market with a way too expensive machine that has no games which only helps MS and Nintendo gobble up more market share.
Then they push how powerful the PS3 is compared to the competition. That is great, but, nobody can seem to code on the PS3 so everybody codes on the 360 and ports their games to the PS3 which eliminates all the extras that the PS3 has. The only saving grace is RFOM which turns out to be an outstanding game.
Then the PS3 starts to make it's mark. They produce some great exclusive content like God of War and Uncharted. Everybody seems happy and the PS3 is finally cruising along.....
aaaaaaaaaaaaaand then the hack. We find out there are giant security holes and Sony's rep goes in the shitter. On top of that, nobody can play the fucking thing online for 2 weeks.
Sony had better get the PS4 right and get it to market on time. I think this next release is going to determine Sony's fate in the console war. They need a homerun.

Re: is the PSN network down?
Sorry but it seems to me like people are taking 2 weeks without PSN way too seriously. 4 years of service and we can't play online for two weeks? Get over it. Its not the end of PlayStation.Hoos wrote:This gen has been a Sony killer. Has anybody ever lost market share like Sony did between the last gen and this gen? Drama queen

Re: is the PSN network down?
I'm not saying that it's the end of the playstation. I'm looking at the big picture and it hasn't been good for Sony. They have gone from 1st to 3rd this generation. The PS3 itself hasn't been a failure but if you compare where Sony was with the PS2 compared to now it's ugly.

Shit goes in Cycles Hoos you know that.Atari> Nintendo>Sega>Sony>Microsoft>Nintendo>?????

Re: is the PSN network down?
who the hell would put a major CC on psn anyway. take cash and buy a psn card. they cant hurt you then.
I would never ever put my personal CC on a gaming system. at all.
At the most I would purchase a gift card that cannot be refilled. just my opinion

Re: is the PSN network down?
Lol. Because id rather pay $7 for a $7 game then $20 for a $7 game. Convenience will always beat whatever the "safe decision" is. Credit card info was compromised, and confirmed to be safe now, so i'll keep my card tied to all my online accounts (amazon, psn, etc) because its way more convenient.kdog36 wrote:who the hell would put a major CC on psn anyway. take cash and buy a psn card. they cant hurt you then.

Re: is the PSN network down?
im gonna go with the selling is BS. Who would buy these accounts? They've been red flagged for suspicious activity so someone buys 2.2 million of them, and does what? .. they buy something, flagged, arrested, fraud, jail
Re: is the PSN network down?
Big Sony press conf coming. It's about 6 hours away.

(Reuters) - Sony Corp's No.2 Kazuo Hirai will brief media on Sunday about a huge security breach of its PlayStation Network, the first time an executive of the Japanese electronics giant will publicly address the case, which could prompt global legal actions.
Hirai, in line to succeed CEO Howard Stringer, will hold a news conference in Tokyo at 2:00 p.m. (1 a.m. EDT) on Sony's investigation of the case, its information management system and the schedule to resume services, the firm said in a news release on Saturday.
Sony warned on Tuesday that hackers had stolen names, addresses, and possibly credit card details from 77 million user accounts of its online video game network, which produces an estimated $500 million in annual revenues.
The disclosure of one of the biggest ever online data infiltrations came on Tuesday, a week after Sony shut down the network. Executives made no mention of the crisis hours earlier that day when they launched its first tablet computer.
The delay prompted anger among online users, although company said it was due to a forensic investigation.
It could lead to legal action around the globe and pose a challenge for Hirai, who Stringer has said is in pole position to succeed him.
In the United States, attorneys general, who act as consumer advocates, have begun investigating the matter or reviewing it with staff in several states, while U.S. regulators such as the Federal Trade Commission could get involved as well.
The chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Energy and Commerce, Mary Bono Mack, on Friday sent a letter to Hirai, who also serves as the chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America, asking why the disclosure was delayed.
In Britain, a government watchdog launched an investigation of the incident.
Sony has been mulling a potential successor for Stringer, who has been vague about his plans from the next financial year that starts in April 2012.
Hirai, who was promoted in March to executive deputy president of Sony, used to run the firm's network products and services division including Sony's game businesses.
Sony shares took a hit on Thursday, falling nearly 5 percent in Tokyo. The bourse was closed on Friday, a national holiday.
Sony said it had encrypted all credit card numbers, which would make it extremely difficult for hackers to access that data. But criminals might use other personal information that was not encrypted to launch scams.
