Here's a question. Tom Bradley's been around there forever and was a defensive coach. How thoroughly has he been checked out? How much did he know?

Something odd to think about. Kirk Ferentz is now the longest tenured coach in the Big Ten. The next three are Ron Zook, Bret Bielema, and Pat Fitgerald.

@Dave (about Paterno v. Mcq)
- JoePa testified that he was also willing to speak up about it. It's not like he hid anything. There is no justification at all for McQ.

@AJ (about informing authorities)
- I posted it in here among all of the other stuff, but University PD has full jurisdiction over the campus, SCPD has no jurisdiction. As much as we think a campus PD is a joke, this is the authority that the have to report to. If he goes to SCPD, they tell him to take it to UPD. He went to the head of the UPD.

@Champ (about 'rioting')
- Please tell me that you're not buying into the media's spin on this. It almost made me sick watching Stuart Scott (whom I previously had a lot of respect for) outright fishing for negative response in the rioting. There were well over 2000 kids out there last night and of the negative things the worst you'll likely hear about is the van being tipped over. And as I said as soon as I heard about it and saw the pictures, I didn't condone it, but I get it. These kids around the van blamed the media (was was reported directly last night), they were screaming and chanting at the news reporter and they ended up flipping the van. Criminal? Yeah. Violent and a 'riot?' Questionable at best. Another great example was the reporter that was on live on ESPN around 1am who opened by saying that he decided to take cover because he had a rock thrown at him. He went through his comments, then Scott asked him about the incident. To which he blew it off saying something to the effect of "well, it really wasn't a big deal, it was a small rock, really small, it kind of hit me in the leg, it actually didn't even scuff my pants." Another case of the sensationalism, shortly after that, ESPN throws up a headline under a reporters "Vehicles overturned, light posts down, fires set." Yes, all of these were plural. The vehicles was the 1 media truck... I didn't find anything further when searching after seeing that. The light posts, was the 1 light post that was started at the very beginning, before most of the police arrived. And the fires, that one was great, from all of the reports I saw, 1 image surfaced... it was a 35-40 yr old male, in the middle of the street, lighting about 2 pages of newspaper. All of this is irresponsible, but the amount of sensationalism was incredible.

Any general reports, once you read them, are going to tell you that 99% of the kids were completely civil, on their phones, hanging out. But they'll throw in as much vagueness as they can.

As for what's next... rumors are still going on that another BIG announcement is going to come out in terms of Sandusky, which is a real outrage.

As for Bradley... I think he's just the next person that they could put in to get them through the weekend. He, nor the majority, if not all of the coaches will not be with the program next season. People are questioning why the AD is still technically on board, I assume that's has something to do with the fact that he's on LOA and maybe there are some legal implications to that. As for McQ, I doubt he's on the field Sat. I think it's likely that the board meeting that started at 730 didn't have time to finalize his status and they'll meet again and that decision will be made. I was actually shocked that they got through both Spanier and JoePa last night. I thought that might take an additional day for JoePa.

... I'm on another site right now too... reading about something Mark Madden is saying. This is unreal... hoping this isn't true... but if it is... it might be one of the most unbelievable things I've ever read.

Just started listening to this. I don't know Madden, but he wrote a very spot on piece back in the Spring that completely foreshadowed all of this. This might be a pretty credible interview. I'll recap what I hear.

Yes, that is the organization. I don't remember if Millen was an honorary member (as in, he didn't have a role there) or active.

Take that comment as rumor for now... but under the understanding that this guy was the one in front of this story.

Who think the original prosecutor that has been "missing" since 2005 is living a new life somewhere? Seems likely since his laptop was found stripped of the hard drive after he told his g/f he was going on a trip and was never seen again. However, the hard drive was finally recovered and his computer was searched and it found search phrases like "how to shred a hard drive."

This story is crazy.

I thought the computer was not operational and the hard drive was never recovered?

I heard Madden on the radio this morning. Kept pimping himself up and talking about how great he was.

Here's an article published in the Beaver County Times (Local State College, PA newspaper) on April 3, 2011.

The Jerry Sandusky situation seems a matter of failure to connect certain dots, or perhaps unwillingness in that regard. Lots of people besides the former Penn State defensive coordinator have some explaining to do.

Allegations of improper conduct with an underage male first surfaced in 1998, while Sandusky was still employed by Penn State. That incident allegedly occurred in a shower at Penn State's on-campus football facility. No charges were filed.

Sandusky retired the next year, in 1999. He was 55, prime age for a coach. Odd, to say the least - especially with Joe Paterno thought even then to be ready to quit and Sandusky a likely, openly-discussed successor.

It seems logical to ask: What did Paterno know, and when did he know it? What did Penn State's administration know, and when did they know it?

Best-case scenario: Charges are never brought, and Sandusky walks away with his reputation permanently scarred. The rumors, the jokes, the sideways glances - they won't ever stop. Paterno and Penn State do the great escape.

Worst-case scenario: Sandusky is charged. Then it seems reasonable to wonder: Did Penn State not make an issue of Sandusky's alleged behavior in 1998 in exchange for him walking away from the program at an age premature for most coaches? Did Penn State's considerable influence help get Sandusky off the hook?

Don't kid yourself. That could happen. Don't underestimate the power of Paterno and Penn State in central Pennsylvania when it comes to politicians, the police and the media.

In 1999, Penn State was rid of Sandusky. His rep was unblemished, which allowed him to continue running a charitable foundation that gave him access to underage males. To be a volunteer assistant with a high school football team, thus gaining access to underage males.

If Paterno and Penn State knew, but didn't act, instead facilitating Sandusky's untroubled retirement - are Paterno and Penn State responsible for untoward acts since committed by Sandusky?

This is far from an outrageous hypothesis, especially given the convenient timeline.

Initially accused in 1998. Retires in 1999. Never coaches college football again. Sandusky was very successful at what he did. The architect of Linebacker U. Helped win national championships in 1982 and 1986. Recognized as college football's top assistant in 1986 and 1999.

Never any stories about Sandusky being pursued for a high-profile job. Never any rumors about him coming out of retirement.

But there's no shortage of stories and rumors about Penn State football sweeping problems under the rug, is there?

Why did college football let an accomplished coach like Sandusky walk away at 55? Why did he disappear into relative anonymity?

A grand jury, spurred by a complaint made by a 15-year-old boy in 2009, has been investigating Sandusky for 18 months. Witnesses include Paterno and Penn State athletic director Tim Curley. Interviewing Paterno about a subject like this had to have been one of the single most uncomfortable acts in the history of jurisprudence.

Plenty of questions remain yet unanswered. Potentially among them: What's more important, Penn State football or the welfare of a few kids?

You might not want to hear the answer.
