shel311 wrote:Also, the BCS is out, and Oklahoma State is rather comfortably ahead of Arkansas in the computer polls, also helps my theory. If they beat OU, would a win over LSU even put Arkansas above the Pokes in the computer standings? Much less LSU and Bama. It seems like there's still a good chance they'd be far enough behind LSU in the computers that they couldn't make up the difference in the human polls.
Shit is getting interesting.
I like Oklahoma State's chances. They sit 6th in both polls but a very comfortable 2nd in the computers. If they beat Oklahoma they will no question jump stanford and vtech. If LSU beats Arkansas, they jump them too. That would give them a minimum of .910 in the polls. I think the voters would give them a ton of 2nd place votes based on the fact they won't want a rematch over giving Oklahoma State a chance, causing them to jump Alabama.
If Arkansas wins we are in the world of shit.

A few weeks ago, I said there was no shot of a rematch.
But it certainly seems like the tide has changed on that thought. See what i did there?

voters are fickle if Oklahoma State and LSU win out, I still would bet they play for the Championship. The win against Oklahoma would sway sooo many SEC hating voters. Plus the computers love the Big 12, you see how Kansas State is 5th!?! If LSU loses I still think Oklahoma State would make it as the computers would very likely put them #1 overall.

Like I said, since computer polls just came into play, you can't go very far back.
It doesn't fit your entire criteria, but 2003 Oklahoma is the closest you can get.
I may not have every last detail correct, but basically they were #1. They lost, #2 won, #3 won. OU fell to #3 in the human polls, but stayed #1 in the computer polls, and the difference was enough to keep them at #1 in the BCS despite losing, while LSU and USC won.
It wasn't a lost to the actual #3 team, but that's as close as you will get. And it does show that you can lose and stay ranked #1 due to the computer polls.
They got on SOS. That used to be a separate component of bcs as did margin of victory.

Here's a chat with Brad Edwards, ESPN's BCS expert, oh and also an Alabama grad. Read these quotes, then read what I've been telling you guys for about 5 pages now, it's just about word for word what I've been saying:
http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/13984 ... n-for.html
We thought it would be a good time to check in with Brad Edwards — ESPN’s Mississippi-born, Alabama-educated BCS guru (who said he has family ties to Louisiana) — about his thoughts on the Tigers’ and their immediate future:
Everyone wants to know where LSU would fall if it loses to Arkansas on Friday. What do you think?
“When the (BCS) standings first came out and I had a look at the actual rankings in the computers, I didn’t have the same perspective I had once the computers posted their rankings on their respective sites and you see the point gaps between the teams.
“My belief is that after a loss to Arkansas, LSU would still be two to three spots ahead of Arkansas in most of the computers. That means if Arkansas beats LSU and Alabama beats Auburn, Alabama moves to No. 1, Arkansas moves to No. 2 and LSU to No. 3 (in the human polls), I think the computer advantage for LSU would keep them in the top two of the BCS. That would not only keep Arkansas from winning the tiebreaker over LSU (for a berth in the SEC title game) but allow LSU to win it over Alabama.”
You feel that strongly about the computer rankings?
“The more I look at it, the more I’m convinced that it would take a pretty unlikely scenario for LSU to fall out of the (BCS) top two with a loss.
“The computer advantage for LSU over Arkansas would be enormous. Arkansas would need to beat LSU so convincingly that most of the voters would move Arkansas to No. 1 over an Alabama team that beat them by 24 points (38-14 on Sept. 24), and almost every single voter would have to drop LSU to No. 3. If Arkansas is on average one spot better than LSU in the polls, I don’t think that would be enough for them to hold on because of LSU’s computer edge.”
So in terms of the SEC championship game, you think LSU’s chances are good?
“I expect LSU to go to the SEC Championship Game win or lose — obviously win — unless Alabama loses. It’s hard for me to see LSU losing a three-way tie to Arkansas.”
Thank you, drive through.
/ cue Arkansas beating LSU 38-10

I haven't been able to find a clear answer, but how does USC's situation affect the SOS for all the teams that they play? I mean USC could of easily been a top 15 BCS team if they were eligible, and their situation has to be hurting teams like Stanford and Oregon somehow.

I'm pretty sure it's no different than any other team.

the fact that LSU can lose saturday and still play for the championship makes it "so great" ???? You should do yourself a favor and see the game from the perspective of a non perennial top 5 team, then you'd understand how fucking stupid the system is.

Oh wait, NOW you think LSU can lose and still play for a title? What happened to that argument where you were taking shots at me? Hmm...
And, using your logic, it's ok for EVERY other team to lose a game and play for a title except for LSU? I don't get it.
